Some real tough critics on this Board. In his post game radio interview, Coach was almost elated in the play of the lads, particularly of Dusan. Despite the obvious defensive lapses, Coach appears to be completely content with the overall performance of this very young team. Let us just say: from the King's perspective, the barbarians are not at the gate and he is optimistic on our chances for "W's" (my conclusion from his remarks) against Wake, Temple and even UNC. Only point of dissatisfaction expressed was for need for greater attendance at the upcoming games at Belk. 8-1 is real good now for these young lads. _________________ All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for men of good will to do nothing. Hear hear. Thrilled with the results and excited about the potential. |

8-1 is spectacular. Monster game coming up against Temple after the 11 day break. Hope we can stay sharp. |

I am incredibly pessimistic but there is also more than a grain of truth in my words. That being said, Dusan has always been one of the guys I root for the most. He has so much potential, he is literally an oak tree (strong, tough to move, and tall) with touch and skill. I want him to do well SOOOO badly and tonight was certainly a great step. Keep working Dusan. |

Because this team has such obvious potential it is easy to focus on the missed opportunities, but, I encourage fans to focus on the possibilities. Luka is getting better and better. He has A10 rookie of the year potential. Luke is finding his legs. His defensive game is great, he competes with JAG intensity and his three point shooting—so lauded—is coming around. Bates Jones is giving the team valuable minutes when Luka gets in foul trouble. Dusan has great potential and had a great game tonight. DCz has hit some big threes and will only get better. Nelson will contribute, and soon. Uncle Ki has shot well below his average and is due for some statistical correction. KG hasn’t played his best and is still racking up points and JAG just keeps getting better. The future is bright folks. |

Game proceeded a lot like Reigs said it would in the pre-talk, at least in terms of what he said we would have trouble stopping.
Mike Jones had warned them about the guy from MN; 40 points a game in high school.
Defense was definitely not up to what we had done in the two previous games.
Still, an 8-1 start ain't pooted liver. Five players in double figures shouldn't induce hay fever. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

Pretty typical game for us this time of year. Lots of mental lapses and clear the focus wasn’t 100%. That said, I thought we played with confidence and poise when necessary. That’s not exactly high praise, as pragmatism can get you into trouble, but it’s an acknowledgement that this team knows how to win. Lots of work to do if we’re gonna win in the NCAA tournament. The UNC game will give us the best glimpse. I’ll forever remember Steph’s look at the end of the UMD game his freshman year. He wasn’t happy to almost win. He thought we should have won. When we get that body language against an elite team, we’ll know.

If we play like this against Wake, Temple, and UNC we will lose all 3 games. |
We can play worse and beat Wake.
8-1. Score 99 points. People hand wringing. This is a tough crowd. _________________ This is a post by BDF, not BDL. |

That is HIGH praise. TK is easily my top 5 favorite DC player
How about Dusan too. Wow! |

Winthrop has played at one of the fastest tempos in D1 so far this season. They scored a lot against Warren Wilson and another sub D1 team, but they intend to run and gun against D1 teams, too.
Nych Smith started college at Fordham, but left before he ever played against Davidson. He went to a junior college and then to Winthrop. He shoots some of his jumpers like Lloyd, later World B., Free, kicking a leg out to create contact if a defender is close by. Refs are supposed to call fouls or issue warnings when shooters do that. There was a great example in the 2nd half when he took a 3 pointer in front of Section 9.
He flopped on other 3 pointers.
They put Bjorn Broman, the 6' guard on Kellan in the first half. In the 2nd half, Kellan wisely drove on Broman. Broman had 6 rebounds.
They played 4 guards most of the game. Luka and Dusan took advantage of Winthrop's lack of height.
Luke had 4 assists. One was a great pass to JAG who took off from the 3 point line for a layup. Another was a pass to Luka for a downward thrust. It was on Channel 3's highlights.
In 2007, Winthrop was 22nd in the final AP poll. They beat Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. They were an 11 seed, which is impressive for Big South team.
*Bias alert! My grandmother graduated from Winthrop in 1911 or '12. |

Definitely Achilles is needing a slash G/F who can get to the basket and play some quicker 4. KP is fine but because of legs has never had that explosive 1,2 step and get to the basket: our team would be immensely helped by having a player like that in our program alongside KG, JaG and Luke. And Luka
Hoping Nate and dusan can be healthy and ready to go for next couple games |

If it was the lane violation call, I can understand, as WU shooter's FT's take about 7 seconds to come down. Rainbows. |
First lane violation was on us. Ref hands the ball back to the shooter. Before he even started his motion, a teammate gets called for a lane violation. Not competent. _________________ "McKillop is a gentleman. He could have played 'name that score' if he so desired."---St Joe's fan |

PS. The student turnout was pretty good. Some left before the fun in the last few minutes, but they came just before exams and deserve kudos for that.
I just saw 77's comment about the free tee shirts. Some students may have made a U turn after collecting a shirt, but many sat in a seat for at least the first half.
PPS to rbarney. Nathan was clothed tonight. |
