Another entry in my logbook was a 4.6 hour round trip to Tallahassee on 4/29/79, and a 1 hour local demo flight in a nicer plane I wanted to buy. I even gave the man a deposit, but somebody was ahead of me and I lost the deal.
I had already started trying to sell my old plane, and made a .6 hour flight to deliver it to the new owner the next month.
I started renting planes again, and used training flights to swap kids around.
But my priorities gradually got a bit rearranged.
The next time we went to Thanksgiving on Jekyll Island, I was an official part of the Thanksgiving Tree, with a legalistic piece of paper signed by a Baptist preacher to prove it. So this time I was allowed to spend the night. I also pretty much knew my in-laws by then, although I still had a bit of trouble keeping all the nieces and nephews straight.
I got to help look for a dog-in-law who temporarily escaped that night, and endeared myself to two brothers-in-law by granting access to the beer cooler in my car trunk. They were not normally allowed such things at the gathering. I guess I was a bad influence.
My life went on, now without airplanes, but that was offset by two more kids (DC ’04 and ’08), which was a pretty good swap, all things considered.
The Boss’s Thanksgiving Tree kept growing, and all those urchins I encountered in 1978 and later started gathering spouses and generating children, which is pretty much the way the world works when it’s properly adjusted.
Jekyll Island got too small, and Thanksgivings got bigger and bigger, but cut back to a big meal in somebody’s house. We made a few rotations to one outpost about 70 miles away from Savannah, but some folks wound up too far away.
Eventually we lost the top of the tree, and it was replaced by four smaller trees, which is also OK, being the way life works.
With Pink Hair off in Nashville, our local tree this year was down to three, but that was fine, as the cycle continues.
But I’ll always remember the last of the Big Tree Thanksgivings. There were at least 50 people there, on various branches of the tree, and friends of some on the tree, and maybe random folks off the street for all I know. I just remember that I only recognized about half the participants, and some of those I couldn’t remember their names right off.
Our small group of four kind of hid out and ate and talked. This was in 2008, right after the Loyola game, so that’s what we talked about. I could see the wheels turning in Pink Hair’s head as we cussed and discussed and recussed the whole silly situation. We all contributed a bit, but she did the writing and sent me the result the next day and I posted it for her.
It’s still there. https://davidsoncats.com/viewtopic.php?t=7564

Game is reminding me of *that* Montana game thus far.
Defense has been...... terrible. Davidson's bigs are hedging/sitting on ball screens way too long, and Winthrop is roasting us on the subsequent ball movement and recovery rotation. Davidson needs to cap screens and be able to defend their man better _________________ Win with character, win with cruelty. |

Following play by play on espn. Is our defense as horrible as the stats would indicate? _________________ "Then they started making 3s. A lot of 3s. We're talking more 3s than a bad dating site." |

Their 3-point shooting is killing us. Offensively, the plan seems to be to get in in the paint...good, unless we are trading 2's for 3's. And many short 2's have come up too short for Cats. |

Did Jamie Luckie really call a 10 second violation on the Winthrop free throw or was it another violation? |
