They only beat Auburn by two possessions on a neutral court.

I assume they are playing Gonzaga today. That could be interesting.

I haven't seen them play yet. I don't enjoy watching Duke win.

Judging solely by the score it appears that Auburn had enough talent to have had a legit shot to get a win. Did anyone watch it yesterday? Based on that game, can we conclude that Duke is certainly beatable and likely will lose a few times this year?

Saturday night I had supper with the son of a first cousin and his family at their home north of Charleston. He is an Auburn graduate. He and his wife went to the Diamondhead Classic when Auburn played while he was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was pleased that I was pulling against Alabama in his honor in this tournament.

So last night I turned on the Duke game for a while. His grandfather on the other side (my former uncle) and his half-brother, et. al., are especially big Duke fans. I was probably in the minority among his relatives pulling for Auburn. Before I turned on the TV in the first half, Duke had led by as much as 17, I think I heard them say. I watched as they brought the lead down into single digits, then later I watched a bit of the second half as the scores continued to advance somewhat evenly. Auburn was not able to pull off an upset, but they certainly stayed with them much of the time.

0-4 from the line in the final minute with a 2 pt lead and they still win. whoa.

Just lost 89-87. White Jack fouls out at the end. Great job Zags.

That was quite an exhibition of shot blocking.

Not sure that missing their last 4 FTs bodes well for Gonzaga in the NCAA tournament, but it's nice that this thread meets its end early in the going.

Time for me to chime in. No way Duke goes without a loss this year.

Zags came to play - big time - and the refs let them do so. I will not say that refs swallowed their whistles at the end, but as regrettably happens too frequently with Dook, they didn't give them the game either. Fair officiating and a very talented Gonzaga team was just too much to-nite for the Dookers. Like the Zags in March if they can shot their free throws - great rebounding and defensive minded team.

You beat this year's Duke the way you beat the hyper-athletic Kentucky teams from the last few years: make them play half-court offense and defense. Gonzaga did that and neutralized the Duke advantage.

Congrats to the Zags on a great game plan and execution. (although it was pretty clear they got away with one at the very end. Barrett was clearly fouled when the zag defender jumped into him on the drive. Great win nevertheless for the Zags.

Looking forward to the visit to Chapel Hill in three weeks time. Not many get a chance to beat both Duke and the Tar Heels in the same OOC.

Of course there's @Creighton, Washington and Tennessee first.

Killian Tillie (13 ppg/ 6 rpg and .480 from 3 last year) comes back right after the Carolina game ... he'll help.

Edited to say: Weak effort on my part getting the 20 second Howard Cosell clip "Down goes Frazier" to link on davidsoncats.
