Coach Lambert just got fired.

Lesson to be learned. If you are a quality coach don't take a job that moves up to big time football too quickly. This program should have built a following at the FCS level prior to going BCS. 8000 people for a home game is sad. I thought the alums wanted football?

Confused

Not that it matters much, but he was fired after the game Saturday.

They should have added football around the same time South Florida did, the mid-'90s.

They chose to move up from FCS to FBS before they'd played a game when CUSA invited them. They'd been in CUSA in their basketball heyday in the '90s and early '00s.

Most of their old rivals had left CUSA for the AAC before UNCC arrived. The alumni who marched for football hadn't envisioned conference games against Old Dominion and Middle Tennessee.

Their alumni and the local media thought UNCC would pull in all the local recruits who didn't receive an ACC offer. That hasn't happened. NC has 7 FBS schools and loses its best recruits to out of state schools. Assembling enough talent to produce a winning team has been impossible so far.

This year's game against Appalachian was the first time UNCC's program received any attention in the local media. That result didn't help the program secure more coverage.
