I end up watching a decent bit of Purdue because of my Other Love who resides in the Big Ten.
Carsen Edwards is the best player in the country that nobody talks about because ESPN doesn't shove his name down our gullet. If you ever wondered what Power Five Jack Gibbs would look like, here you have it. Dude's legit, and just a scorer.
Purdue has gone from having 3 gigantic humans a couple years ago to just one now - Matt Haarms, but he is 7'3". I actually thought Purdue functioned better as a unit at times last year with Haarms over Isaac Haas, because the ball wouldn't get stuck in the post. Haarms can shoot it a bit too.
Other dudes are Ryan Cline (has seen his game grow from Just A Shooter to Mostly Just A Shooter, but the dude's lights out) and Nojel Eastern, who was subject of one of the most bizarre NBA draft declarations (and subsequent retractions) last season.
Overall, this Purdue is much less scary than last year, where it seemed the only way to beat them was to just match their hyper efficient scoring. They are replacing 4 major contributes. I would say the 22% number for the cats is accurate: doable, tough, but not impossible. There is a reason I had them picked for 5th in the Big Ten this year _________________ Win with character, win with cruelty. |

They handily beat an App State team that was not significantly changed from the one that cleaned our clocks in Boone last year. This should be a good measure of how better or worse we are with the loss of Aldridge. I still tend to believe that there is a world of potential with this Davidson team, but it may take some time to develop. Certainly, if we ever get JAG, Kellan, Frampton, Luka and KiShawn hitting on all cylinders at the same time, with a healthy bench, we would be very hard to beat. I don't think "hero ball" (one player taking the entire team on his back) is going to work against a strong a team as Purdue. |

I disagree that this will be a good measure of "how better or worse we are with the loss of Aldridge". The team that played App State was ostensibly a different team than the one that beat URI/ gave Kentucky a game. |

Agree with BDL. I also suspect (hope) our team will be different in February than it is now. I think both Frampton and Luka will improve a lot this year. Today's game, win or lose, will help that progress.
It will be interesting if Purdue tries to take Kellan out of the game on the bet that JAG can't go off 2 nights in a row, or if they put more focus on JAG and open up space for Kellan.
Having two guards who can drive is a weapon we haven't had in a while. _________________ This is a post by BDF, not BDL. |

Made the trip up to Indy for our 2008 "Wooden Tradition" match-up against Purdue. The former Colts dome (RCA Dome) was scheduled for implosion the day before.
Went to the top of our hotel to watch the implosion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oy_cL1YwDME
An unfortunate foreshadow of what was to come the next day...
Let's get some revenge for our '08 squad. Go Cats!! |

We had an alumni viewing party in Atlanta. I was three beers in before our game went live, but the depressing crawler at the bottom of the screen made me quickly order my fourth.
During the draft buildup, the Purdue game was mentioned by talking heads as to why #30 would drop behind Rubio. Talk about a fortuitous beat down. _________________ "That light he has is not green, it's fluorescent."
