I attended the scrimmage. Highlights notwithstanding, for a team with outstanding shooters we did not shoot very well. I liked Coach's assessment that he was pleased with the scrimmage because the players generally made good decisions. The shots will drop as play increasingly is in sync with offensive flow.
I was impressed with Luka. He made shots with either hand. He will get muscled on occasion. I wish he had been matched more against Ekwu in the scrimmage.
Luke showed a quick release. He looked like he was still finding his legs. Made some pretty shots but had some ugly ones too. In this scrimmage he struck me as someone who will find his shots within the offense as opposed to someone like Grady or JAG who can create their own shots when needed. This, however, was a small sample.
I agree with the general assessment that this team has talent but is also really inexperienced at some key positions. We are going to have some highs and lows through the first 2/3 of the season, but then should show more of our true potential on a consistent basis down the homestretch. |

JoMo brought up how many minutes our 3 most used players have been getting. I think the difference between SoCon days and A10 days is simply Peyton. Jake and De'Mon never played 35+ mpg. Peyton could and did. A guard or 2 will usually get lots of minutes. The big guys? Not so much. |

I predict, CC will be filling much of the spark plug role previously filled by Rusty... |
If Carter can give JAG a rest from defending the other teams best guard for 7 or 8 minutes a game, it will be a huge benefit, with any offensive contributions during that time being gravy.
We all know that by the end of the year Kellan and JAG will be playing 38-40 minutes per game (Bob's lizard brain), but if we can keep those two to 30-32 per game early in the year, I think it will pay dividends at the end.[/quote]

All seriousness aside, this is an excellent thread. The info is useful to those of us with distance challenges.
Regarding minutes per game, after a make Bob used to have the 4 or 5 (depending on who took the ball out) sprint to the opposite lane, post up --pinning the other center or simply outrunning him. We'd run it up the floor and quickly feed the post. Lots of easy hoops for us but you cant expect big guys to play a lot of minutes if they are all out sprinting in transition. This tactic required 3 or even 4 guys playing the two spots. |

Optical illusion from the low resolution. I am wearing a red-and-black checked shirt for the occasion. The checks are small. If you enlarge the video in your browser and know what you are looking for, you can probably make out the checks.*
Head, yes, but not toe. My shoes are medium tan New Balance walking shoes.

Luka’s up and under scoop shot could be a thing. _________________ That didn’t happen.

A beautiful thing, for certain. I have to admit that the one shot that Nate hit in this video made me smile more than all of the others. (Even though that may have been the only one he hit...?) There's just something about his struggles that seems to merit such a reaction. |
