I'm a healthy guy, pretty much. I have been known to wave my Fitbit in people's faces and inappropriately brag about my fitness. But I do have to admit that I'm a bit beyond my "best by" date, and I don't think I'll see another 71 years.
That's OK, I think I'm playing with house money anyway, by now.
However, looking back, I can perhaps review a few decisions and omissions.
1. I never learned to play a musical instrument. I think that would have enriched my life.
2. I perhaps should have not attended the Union Christmas party in 1967. That led to Marriage #1, with mixed results. However, those mixed results included 2 fine children and then 6 grandchildren (who, by definition, are also fine).
3. I'm glad I eventually got a pilot's license and even owned two airplanes. This was also a not particularly wise set of decisions, but I have the whole thing in my back pocket, suitable for late night boozy recollections.
4. I'm very glad I went to night school principally to suck up VA benefits. There was a woman who sat behind me in one class, and she is still putting up with me 40+ years later. Since we were never formally introduced, she got my name by looking over my shoulder at my paperwork.
She still calls me "Robert" to this day.
5. I'm sorry I sold my 1965 Porsche 356SC in about 1975 for a mere pittance. Even though it needed an engine rebuild, I should have wrapped it in plastic and stuck it in a container somewhere. It would bring 6 figures today. Such is life.
6. Don't get me started on stocks I could have bought.
On the good side, I now know the likely first few lines of my obituary:
".... who passed away after stepping on one more %^&* dog toy at the top of the stairs, then falling and breaking his %^&* neck."
Could be worse... |

Robert: You are a Man for all Seasons. As a fellow oldster, I still have on my bucket list our beloved Cats making a Final Four. Do that and all other unfulfilled goals can be overlooked. Hope to see you soon at these NCAA finals, good fellow. _________________ All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for men of good will to do nothing. Eddie Burke

As I get ready for church, this line comes to mind:
"He tried to sing in too many choirs at one time."
If I were a decent singer, that might make some sense to do. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |
