Keeping in mind that I try NEVER to blame the officials deciding the course of a game, SanteCat is right. That missed call was as bad as any I have seen personally...ever. I was on about the five yard line when our guy stripped the Dayton back. Clearly a fumble.
Instead of 14-14 and Davidson's football on the 20, it was 21-14 Flyers and Davidson backed up due to an unsportsmanlike call on the Cats re the fumble (or non-fumble). Which directly led to Dayton's next TD.
We oldsters on the sideline went nuts. The side judge got blistered from about 8 feet away for several minutes. He didn't even respond or look at us. He knew he and his crew blew it.
My vocal cords are painfully shot from that call. I'm actually sore to the touch. And it was worth it. Frankly, I haven't lost it like that (and I wasn't the only one) in years.
We did a poor job responding to the adversity we faced from that call and the subsequent couple of possessions. But the call still sucked. _________________ "I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter."

The pass reception a couple plays prior to that was bogus as well. The Dayton player never established either of his feet when he caught the ball on the sideline.
Coach has the guys doing a lot of good things. Phelps just missed at TD pass on a go rout. A few more successful passes will eliminate the defense putting 8 in the box all the time.
As for a big positive, Davidson did compete for the majority of the game. I have seen opponents like Dayton put us away in the 1st quarter in the past. It was great to get an early jump. _________________ "They were energized by this move to the A-10. How could you not be?" McKillop said. "The tree is filled with a lot of presents." |
