The Dodgers have an ambidextrous pitcher. Matt Vas..... is unhappy that he can’t change arms within an at bat. The reason for the rule is that switch hitters have to pick a side. If the pitcher changes the batter will want to change sides. One of them has to decide or the at bat may never happen. Since the pitch happens before the swing I guess it makes sense for the pitcher to go 1st.

The same thing happened with Pat Venditte who briefly pitched in the bigs with the Yankees and Bluejays. The powers that be were worried that he would come up against a switch hitter and the two would just keep moving back and forth ad infanitum

Pardon my ignorance on this subject, but if a manager changes pitchers in the middle of a hitter's AB, can the switch hitter change sides?

"Ambidextrous" sounds like something from organic chemistry.

Would he technically be relieving himself on the mound?

You missed your calling as a headline writer.
