https://nc.water.usgs.gov/realtime/rainfall.php

24 hour totals for a few gauges: North Meck High School--1.15 inches, Rocky River at Concord--1.73, Mineral Springs--2.38, Mint Hill--3.01. I'm sure that a number of sites are out of order. The highest one I saw was Surf City. 16.83 inches in 24 hours and 33.83 inches in 2 days. Brutal. Some of the rivers in the coastal plain are already very high and they'll be going way, way up from here.

Dave's on campus weather station report

You can save that address for when you want to know what weather is happening here.

About 2:15 this morning I heard some heavy rain and some clicking from the dining room, where the battery backup for the computer stuff was kicking in and out as apparently voltage of the house current dropped below acceptable levels.

Looking out the window, I don't see anything amiss, light rain and breezy. Radar shows heavier rain around Mooresville and south Charlotte.

Came to Brickhouse for lunch after church. Driving by campus on two sides, I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.

We could get more here as storm moves toward Asheville and we are on the east side.

Three roof leaks now. One of them leaked down and set off the smoke alarms. Okay, go Flo.

7-day gauges totals: Matthews--11.33, Mint Hill--10.18, Concord at Rocky River--5.6, Cornelius--3.89, East Fork Pigeon River (Rose paddled it yesterday)--4.56, Wrightsville Beach--41.99 inches.

The mountain rivers are all coming up. Fortunately, they were all really low before the storm.

DC69Wildcat Gauge now at 6 1/2" in 48 hours. Standing water in the back yard, few damp spots on the basement wall. My son, his wife, and their 2 children have been with us since Tuesday, having evacuated their house in Holly Ridge, 2 miles inland from Surf City. Despite a reported 42" of rain in Surf City over the last 7 days, neighbors who stuck it out have told my son that his house looks OK, but no one has been inside. There is currently no land access to Onslow or New Hanover counties, so they don't know when they will be able to get home. My neighbor has a landing strip next door, so I suggested to my son, a major in the Marines, that he summon one of his neighbors, an Osprey pilot, to come pick him up.

So far, the worst casualty my family has suffered was our auxiliary (OK, beer) fridge in the basement, which quit working today after 42 years of faithful service.
