Halftime, 57-26.
That sets a new record for points in a half. Old record was 56 against Furple in 1969. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

I thought the Furman slugfest (49 combined points in one quarter; 63-55 final score) was in 1979. I was there for Al Rhyne to Gifford Piercy, again and again and again. |

Quakers hanging around, only down four TDs with 11 minutes to go. Good guys up 77-47. _________________ That didn’t happen.

Right now Guilford has 250 yards rushing, 364 yards passing, and 289 kick return yards, resulting in 47 points and a 30 point deficit. Bizarre! LiveStats also says the Quakers have given up 203 yards on 4 penalties!?!? _________________ "We should've thrown our number 7 pitcher against Davidson......" 91 to 61 with a minute left to play. No, this is not a basketball score. _________________ TCC - trust, commitment, care |

In 2011, Davidson played Guilford in basketball. The final was 111-64. I have no doubt that if the starters had played most of the game our offense could have scored 111 points. _________________ TCC - trust, commitment, care |

Final, 91-61.
I checked and the 56 point half was in fact in 1969, the Tangerine Bowl season. Final score of that one was 77-14.
The SID office will have fun with this one. Lots of records -- total offense, rushing offense, rushing yards per carry, points, combined points... _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

the most burning question i can articulate after seeing the stats for the game:
How can the Cats give up 61 points in the game and have a grand total of 1 kickoff return for 0 yards?
My other questions might seem like the babbling of a mad man. But I'd be interested in the answers to them. |

The new fair catch rule encourages teams not to return kickoffs. |

OK. Makes sense and is (I guess) what I thought. On the other hand, seems likely that trying to run thru their kickoff defense might have resulted in some touchdowns. But then no rushing record, I guess.
Weird. |

Man, what a game. I am beat running up and down the sidelines. I brought up the 77-14 game to folks around me when the score was getting out of hand. |

2 different Davidson-Furman games have been mentioned on the board tonight.
In 1969, Davidson beat Furman 77-14. There were many records set in that game. My brother was the freshman cheerleader for Furman that season. It was an elected position.
In 1979, Ed Farrell's best team played Furman late in the year. A win might earn us a spot in the 1-AA playoffs. We lost 63-55. Coach Farrell was quoted in Sports Illustrated, "We thought 55 would be enough".
Guilford's first string scored 5 tds on our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string defenses in the 2nd half. I think Guilford scored 9 tds on 14 possessions. Did we ever punt? We had no turnovers. |
