NC A&T defeated ECU 28-23 today in a game that was postponed from Saturday. I only know the score. Cobb cannot be happy.
A&T is classified as a FCS school, but the champion of the MEAC does not play in the FCS playoffs. They play the SWAC champion in the Celebration Bowl.
The Ivy League champion does not play in the FCS playoffs either.
Let's give Coach Abell a few years before going to Greensboro to play in front of the big crowd and band. |

I wouldn't play Villanova anytime soon either. _________________ "They were energized by this move to the A-10. How could you not be?" McKillop said. "The tree is filled with a lot of presents." |

Since Terry (and the former chancellor Dr Ballard) ECU has pretty much been in a free-fall.
Terry left the Pirates with a several million dollar surplus. They are now running large athletic deficits. Their football season ticket base has dropped 30+ percent. Pirate Club donations are way down.
And, scarily enough, Davidson has some guys that would contribute, and play a fair amount, for ECU. The Pirates talent level has bottomed out - so many good players left when Coach Ruff was fired.
The firing of Coach Ruff (he had some deficiencies that Terry would have worked with him to fix) may go down as the worst athletic move in the nation since South Carolina made that idiotic decision decades ago to leave the ACC. _________________ "I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter."

A&T had their best season ever last year- undefeated, untied and Celebration Bowl champs. Coach Rod Broadway (Broadway Rod?) retired. The new coach has done OK so far. He beat Jax State ( their 1st FCS regular season loss in over 40 games) and now ECTC. |

I don't care about ECU football, but I sure wish they'd get brave enough to play us in basketball. _________________ "McKillop is a gentleman. He could have played 'name that score' if he so desired."---St Joe's fan |

And if it did, it wasn’t that bad.
And if it was, that’s not a big deal.
And if it is, that’s not my fault.
And if it was, I didn’t mean it.
And if I did…
You deserved it.

ECU has gone to the NCAA Tournament twice, in '72 and '93. Both seasons they had losing records. |

To beat the hell out of them? Like Charlotte or Winthrop. I had fun watching the slaughters of UNCW and Charleston Southern last season. If we have to choose one 300+ RPI team from North Carolina to play, I'd rather give Charlotte a year off and play ECU. I'd like to play them just for the Bob McKillop angle. _________________ "McKillop is a gentleman. He could have played 'name that score' if he so desired."---St Joe's fan |

What about baseball? That would actually be an interesting matchup for both sides. Any have any clue when the last time was that we played them? |

A couple of years ago our administration allegedly turned down a potential baseball game with ECU in Charlotte. I do know that the Chairman at the time of the ECU BOT (lived in Charlotte, went to my high school, and his kids attended McKillop's camps) tried repeatedly to contact our athletic administration and didn't get a bite. He was so irritated that he called me and I suggested that he call Carol. I don't know what happened after that.
ECU also hosts one of the best early season tournaments in the nation each year. I'm sure we could get an invite if we wanted it.
Lots of connections between ECU and Davidson. _________________ "I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter."

Echoing Bill, we could play in ECU's tournament or play in Greenville for a weekend series in February or March when we normally play at home. If ECU pays us enough to cover our expenses, we'd break even.
Picking up wins against a nationally ranked team might secure us a 3 seed over a 4 seed the next time we win the A10 Tournament. |
