Nonsense. Playing a D3 doesn’t hurt at all.

Not DIII, actually not an NCAA school or NAIA school

No clue. But I did eyeball the announced OOC schedules for URI, Dayton, VCU and SLU earlier when I was posting. I suppose things could change with this afternoon's full schedule release, but what they aren't doing is playing a single non D1 team for a regular season game.

They played 6 games against D1 opponents last season, including UMBC. They played Georgetown, but not the one in DC. The one in Kentucky. Davidson played them in football in '81 or '82.

Central Penn is a for profit school. They're the Word of God or Rod of God of college basketball.

They lost to Warren Wilson last year. Close game, though.

This isn't even a D3 program. Central Penn College is a for-profit business college located across the river from Harrisburg, is in the US Collegiate Athletic Association's Division 2, and plays the likes of Williamson College of Trade (a vocational junior college for men), Five Towns College, and Christendom College. Last year they played and lost to UMBC, Winthrop, Campbell(sville), Georgetown (College), Howard, and Buffalo. They finished their season 19-10 after a decisive 121-38 win over Patrick Henry College. Their tallest players are 6-5, but they have 2 of them.

I'd never heard of the USCAA until today.

I'm glad that we are playing them. If the choice was them or nobody, they are a great opponent. Pad the stats, easy win, enjoy the Christmas break.

I like watching us play regardless of opponent, so as a fan Im happy having another game.

In terms of actually looking at the schedule I dont know if the game actually is better than nothing. The positive is that it potentially keeps our guys sharp over the winter break. That said, I dont think a win would even be considered in our overall record for a possible tournament seed or at large resume because it isnt a D1 opponent. Along with that we have the downsides of risking injury in a meaningless game, a win wont prove anything where as a potential loss would be a huge blemish, and if we do wind up in consideration for an at large bid this would be the type of game the committee would love to hold against us as proof that we dont play a good enough schedule, even if its a huge blow out win.

The probability of getting injured playing this game is much less than if we had a practice.

The downside of this game is it does nothing to prepare us for the next game against UNC-CH.

One positive is the team stays in Davidson after the Wake game for another 4 days and practices. Which is good if they can avoid injury, as collegecoach mentioned.

Another positive is the non-rotation players and walkons should get some minutes, which is good for them and the program.

Are we buying their equipment for them as part of the deal? There's precedent.

A saving grace is that (I think) the game won't actually count in any of the metrics (at least non DIII games didn't count in the old RPI system). This is basically a glorified scrimmage.

One non-DI school on the schedule doesn't bother me. We need a game post exams/pre-Christmas to keep the guys sharp.

It's an almost impossible task to find teams to play at home, especially at that time of year.

I am guessing it's a 75% cost savings as well.

I know that 99.9% of the fan base will welcome the diversion, but opening night on election night kills me. No way I can be there.
