Saturday, 2 pm.
#239 at #324. 53%. 68-66. Both teams have lost their last three games.
UMass is led by Hailey Leidel, 15.5 ppg, 41% from deep. PG Bre Hampton-Bey can get to the rim and create, 11.6 ppg, 4 apg. Pre-season 3rd team all-A10 Maggie Mulligan averages a double-double. Genesis Rivera is also in double-figures.
Leidel, Hampton-Bey, and Mulligan all fouled out in our double-OT win back in January. Mackenzie scored 31 in that game wearing Andrea's jersey.
Aggressive 2-3 zone out of which they will trap. Various presses -- 3/4 court, full court. They can get out and run. Their pressure can give up a lot of what seem like good opportunities, but they're not always the shots you're used to taking and you'll pay if you don't convert on the backend.

Starters... Katie, Saadia, Justine, Ally, Mackenzie.
2:29 left, 1st qtr, 17-16, UMass. Both teams getting great looks. Cats in man-to-man. UMass in their 2-3 zone, and full court pressure early on. Six Wildcats have scored already. Mulligan has 8 for UMass.
End of 1st qtr, 20-19, UMass, who are 4-9 from deep. Cats are plus 10 on the boards, minus 5 in turnovers. Saadia has 5 assists. Mackenzie has 5 boards. Shot selection good so far. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

2nd qtr, 5:09, 29-25, UMass. Cats opened the period with a 6-0 run, UMass now on a 9-0 run, timeout Cats. Still getting great looks, just missing 'em.
2:56 remaining, 32-31, Cats. Leidel has 3 fouls.
Halftime, 35-34, Cats. UMass is 6-14 from deep. Much better D from us those last 5 minutes. Only 6 fouls total in the game, and Leidel has half of them.
Mackenzie with 10 and 7. Katie and Kianna each has 6. Three other Cats with 4 apiece. Ally with 4 blocks. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

3rd qtr, under 5 timeout, 48-43, UMass, they're making shots. 2-2 from deep for them this qtr.
1:45 remaining, 58-48, UMass. 3-4 from deep this qtr, 9-17 for the game. Offensive looks not coming as easily for us. Timeout, Cats.
End of 3rd qtr, 58-52, Sarah with the 4 important points late for us, she's in double figures now with 10. Another double-double for Mackenzie. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

4th qtr, 9-1 run for the Cats, who now trail 59-57. We are pressing full court after makes to "speed them up". Katie now in double figures with 12, on 4 triples.
4:11 left, 67-66, Cats. Katie has 6 threes, 3 this qtr I think.
3:14 left, tied at 68, timeout, UMass to inbound.
Same score, 1:25 remaining, UMass ball.
1:06 left, Mulligan scores for UMass, they lead, 70-68.
Cats miss, UMass uses clock at their end, Cats finally get the steal, but then turn it over. 4 seconds left, UMass ball after the timeout. They are in the bonus, thankfully.
3 seconds, UMass to the line... miss, miss, but 2 seconds run off.
Timeout, Cats, 1 second left, we will inbound in the front court, down 2.
Justine inbounding, nothing there, Cats call timeout again.
** Final, 70-68, UMass. Had our chances. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

Katie led the way with 18 on 6-11 from deep.
** Katie now has 66 threes this season. That ties her for #2 on the single season list with Wildcat great Ashley Lax in 2008-09. Wow.
Mackenzie had 14 pts, 12 rebs, 3 asts, 2 blks and 2 stls. She's getting close to another rebounding milestone.
Justine with 11 pts, 4 rebs, 2 asts, and 2 stls. She's nearing the 1000-pt mark.
Kianna had 10 pts, as did Sarah, who also had 8 rebs.
Next up... a visit to La Salle. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

Tough loss, sounds like UMass just made too many three pointers today. |

With 3:40 left, Kianna split a pair to tie it at 68. Our remaining possessions...
Sarah missed jumper
Kianna turnover
Justine turnover
Mackenzie missed layup
Kianna turnover
Kianna missed desperation 3-ptr
Despite their hot shooting, we put ourselves in position to win. Just didn't execute offensively down the stretch. At least that's how I saw it. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |
