Wednesday, 7 pm, our place.
#155 at #223. 38%. 69-65.
These numbers shifted a bit between yesterday and today because of St. Joes' 69-50 win at #65 Duquesne.
Great balance from their top five players, all of whom average double figures. 5-5 waterbug PG Alyssa Monaghan contributes 4 assists per game. The other four players are 6-0 and 6-1, and rugged for the most part. Sarah Veilleux shoots 44% from deep, 54% overall. Chelsea Woods is pre-season 1st team all-A10. Adashia Franklyn is pre-season 2nd team all-A10 and pre-season defensive all-A10. Amanda Fioravanti is the other starter, 10 ppg, 6 rpg.
The Hawks were lights out shooting against Duquesne, with the five players above shooting 25-44 overall and 8-18 from deep. I watched the 2nd half of their home game against GMU, and they did not shoot well at all.
As a team, 46% 2FG, 35% 3FG, 64% FT. Plus 7 on the boards.

Chelsea Woods was out for about 5-6 games in the middle of league play. Just came back vs Duquesne. _________________ Sit vis nobiscum |

Starters... Katie, Saadia, Justine, Ally, Mackenzie.
1st qtr, under 5, 14-6, Hawks. Both teams with some full court pressure. Cats mixing zone and man. Hawks playing zone. 7 second chance points for St. Joes already. Ugh.
End of 1st qtr, 19-17, Hawks. Cats clawed back with a 9-1 run. Much better on the boards toward the end. Justine has 6. Cats are 8-14 from the field. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

2nd qtr, under 5, 29-21, Hawks. Cats in a drought offensively, and we're getting hurt inside at the other end. St. Joes has 11 second chance points. Justine on the bench with 2 fouls, Woods also has 2.
2:45, 33-23, timeout Cats. Only 1 FG for Davidson this qtr.
Halftime, 35-28, after the buzzer three by Kianna. Not a good period at either end for us, though, happy to be this close. 9 Cat turnovers. 11 St. Joes second chance points. 20 St. Joes points in the paint.
Mackenzie has 8. Kianna and Justine each with 6. Fioravanti has 14 for St. Joes. 7 rebs for Sarah. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

3rd qtr, under 5, 47-35. Still not sharp at either end. Minus 7 in points off turnovers. Minus 8 in second chance points.
2:49, 47-39.
1:03, 49-43. Cats starting to force some turnovers.
End of 3rd qtr, 51-46. Another good comeback. No more hole digging please.
Justine has 13. Mackenzie with 12 and 8. Katie with 7, and Sarah with 9 boards. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

4th qtr, under 5 timeout, 56-54, St. Joes. Clutch points from Katie, she has 15 now. Justine playing with 4 fouls. St. Joes is in the bonus.
Refs have decided Veilleux committed a flagrant foul. Katie will shoot the FTs... miss, make, 56-55, down 1.
3:39, Cats now up 59-56, Woods to the line... make, make, Cats up 1.
2 minutes left, 61-60, Cats. Justine shoots a pair... make, miss. Up 2.
1 minute left, tied at 62, Cats ball after the timeout.
35 seconds, Cats turn it over, St. Joes will inbound after another timeout.
Ugh... Woods scores with 5 seconds left, 64-62, St. Joes. Davidson takes timeout, we will inbound in the front court.
** Final, 64-62. Argh. Great look for Justine at the rim, but couldn't get it to go. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

Well, bummer. Cats ended up plus 7 on the boards against a bigger, more physical team after being way behind early. Won second chance points and points off turnovers in the 2nd half. Great effort.
Justine finished with 18 and 7. Mackenzie with 12 and 9. Katie had 16 after a tough 1st half. Sarah had 12 boards.
Richmond won at Bona, so they lead us by a game after tonight. Probably need to win out now to get the 1st round home game, but that's certainly do-able.
Next up... we head north for a rematch with UMass. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

That was a great ball game!!! The Lady Cats lost by two on the scoreboard but for the fans at the game they WON our admiration. This team is fun to watch. They played a team tonight that was pretty darn good and we gave them all they wanted and more. We could/should have tied the game at the buzzer, shot just didn't fall. Somehow even though I would have loved the win that did not diminish my appreciation for the effort. It continues to be impressive, the difference Coach Coats-Fulks and her staff have made. We need a big crowd for senior day on the 24th. |
