Wednesday. Our house. 7 pm. UMass is winless in conference at 0-5. They have a game tomorrow with VCU. _________________ "McKillop is a gentleman. He could have played 'name that score' if he so desired."---St Joe's fan |

We are 3-4 in conference. We have 4 games remaining against teams with RPIs of 296 or worse. If we can win 1 more game in addition to those 4, we'll finish the conference season 8-8. That's impressive for the team in Coach Coats Fulks' first season. |

UMass played a really soft OOC schedule. Tough conference schedule so far.
They've played well against the upper half of the conference. Could have won at Duquesne. Should have won at Saint Louis, but the Billikens closed with an 8-0 run for a 1-point victory.
We'll need another strong effort. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

#335 at #219. 72% chance. 70-63.
UMass is 1-5 in the A10 and 9-10 overall. Best win was over #197 Liberty. Worst loss was at #368 North Dakota State.
Their OOC schedule included Massey #'s 535, 657, 728, 888, 1710, and 1857. It included zero top 100 teams.
Balanced offensively. Four players in double figures and another at 8+. Hailey Leidel shoots a ton of three's and converts at 44%. Several others who are happy to let fly from deep and shoot in the 30%'s. Maggie Mulligan is a pretty good center, 3rd team pre-season all-A10. Bre Hampton-Bey is a nice playmaker who can get to the rim. Quick guards, good overall team speed, they get a lot of the 50-50 balls. Scrappy rebounders.
They played an aggressive zone against VCU, a team that doesn't shoot the ball all that well. I believe they played man-to-man against Saint Louis. They will press full court at times.
We can play fast with them, but we'll need to make good decisions, take Our Shotsâ„¢, and not get drawn into their sort of helter-skelter style of game.
44% 2FG, 37% 3FG, 70% FT. Plus 5 on the boards. Plus 2.5 on turnovers. Plus 8 in scoring margin.
Go Cats! _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

Starters... Kianna, Katie, Saadia, Ally, Mackenzie. Justine still out with an ankle.
UMass, 2-3 zone, pressing full-court on makes. Cats, man-to-man.
** Make that four WBB Wildcats who have 800 or more career rebounds.
1st qtr, 3 minutes left, 20-12, UMass. Defense optional so far. When we take our time and attack the paint inside their zone, we've been good. When we get teased into taking early shots after breaking the press, not so good.
Cats switch to 2-3 zone.
End of 1st qtr, 25-16, UMass. Mackenzie has 8. Losing the boards, 9-5. UMass shooting 67%. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

Going to need to find a way to get a lot more stops on the defensive end. Umass shooting a blistering 67% through the first quarter. Were tied on turnovers and really aren’t shooting that poorly ourselves but hard to keep pace with a team scoring that efficiently. |

2nd qtr, 6:28, 34-21, UMass.
Halftime, 42-31. We trailed by as many as 16. Mackenzie has 10, Kianna with 6, Ally has 5. Need to ratchet up the intensity.
Minus 4 on the boards, minus 6 in points off turnovers. 3 for 8 FTs, UMass is 8-8. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

Still within reach, going to need a strong start to the second half. Unfortunately we’re not shooting all that great while Umass is still well above 50% from the field. |

3rd qtr, 6:26, 45-36. Wasting some opportunities. Cats amping up the pressure out of the timeout.
Under 5 timeout, 47-40. Mackenzie has 16. Ally and Kianna with 7 apiece.
2 minutes left, 49-48, UMass. Cats are on a 22-7 run. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

We’ve cut the lead down to one and they’re forced to call a timeout! Very good run these past few minutes.
One of two from the free throws to tie the game. It’s been a rough free throw shooting night so far, 7-14 from the line. |

End of 3rd qtr, 51-49, UMass. Mackenzie has 18. Kianna and Ally each with 9. UMass had 9 turnovers that qtr. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

4th qtr, 7:14, 57-52, UMass. Double-double for Mackenzie.
4:43, 59-56. UMass to inbound. Getting lots of chances, need to convert a few.
Hampton-Bey fouls out, Kianna drills a 3, 61-61, 2:36 left.
1:46, Mackenzie is fouled... make, make, 63-61, Cats.
Trey by UMass, trey by Katie, 2 more UMass, tied at 66. Our ball, 29.7 seconds left, 19 on the shot clock, timeout. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.
