All-State

Post by rbarney » Wed Mar 28, 2018 8:35 pm

Good to know! However, it appears Laura Murray was first team AAA, where there was also a AAAA first-team All-State. Chloe Welch seems to be honored across all classes in her state. Likewise, MacKenzie was AP first team All-State seemingly without regard to the class to which her high school belonged.

No fear, I have filed a formal complaint with Pennsylvania and the Associated Press to see if they can retroactively adjust the enrollment of Laura's high school so that she can be eligible for the AAAA team rather than the AAA team.

Unfortunately, it appears you can't fix stupid.

Also, Latt was not selected to the AP Class A All-State Team according to this article http://www.miprepzone.com/oakland/results.asp?ID=12951

Mackenzie was in the Top Five in Michigan her senior year as chosen by the Detroit Free Press. That's what her Davidson bio says and that's what I wrote.

The Top Five might be 5 guards or centers and not a team.

and I didn't state that you were wrong. I was simply pointing out that she was not on the AP All-State team and that the state of Michigan, like Pennsylvania, awards AP All-State honors by class and not as an entire group of players.

All-State

I did not mean to denigrate Laura, and I am surprised that sources with regard to AP First-Team All-State seem to be in conflict. It seems to vary by state as to whether playoffs, All-State teams or other recognitions cross over class lines. As I recall, in New Jersey, where I grew up, there was recognition by division as well as one over-all All-State team and playoffs continued to an eventual state champion once division champions were established. Due to a couple of outstanding Division II teams, one urban and one suburban, the state champion was, for a couple of years, from the smaller Division II rather than the "large-school" Division IV.

Comparing All-State teams is not easy given all the variables involved. Next year's roster will have two players that played on national teams for their respective countries. Thus, I think it's fair to say that those two players are/were All-Country. Calibrating that against All-State teams might be even more difficult.

That said, if our signees keep popping up on these teams, I'm going to keep posting about it. The 1st team for this recent USA Today listing closely matches the Denver Post team mentioned upthread.

Interesting to see a Yale and Stanford commit on the list of 1st team all-state team. Few DI or smaller colleges in CO. Perhaps it can become fertile recruiting territory for us.

Peyton visited Davidson back in March.

6-1 F from Ponte Vedra, FL. One of several very good players on a 26-4 team in one of the state's upper classifications.

Welcome, Peyton!

Very good news. We need to add some size, interior presence. This is an excellent start to class of 2019. Thanks for finding, cc.

Nease’s other two stars are also class of 2019. They are committed to NC State and Middle Tennessee State.

Assuming she returns next year, Nease head coach Sherri Anthony will be in her 33rd season (I think). She got her 500th win in January 2015, so she should be getting close to 600. This might be a fun team to keep an eye on over the winter.

Also, Peyton’s AAU team lists her at 6-2.

Great news!!! The new coaching staff seems to really have infused a lot of energy back into the program, or at least it has reinvigorated my interest as a fan. Is it October yet? I cant wait to see how we do going forward next year.
