She said all the right things in the right order.

I think she may, in fact, although she didn't say it, realize what a building job she has.

Was she asked if she knows of any 6-4 Lithuanian prep prospects?

wftc is sending her a copy of the overseas prep journal.

*ahem* ... She speaks briefly about international recruiting in this video:

And here's the YouTube version of the press conference, sans the "8 minutes of hurry up and wait" lead-in.

She and I had a brief pleasant conversation during the meet and greet part at the end. We talked a bit about her having such a good role model as a colleague from whom she could learn much, as she acknowledged in her talk. She encouraged me to attend her practices. I told her that I often offered helpful suggestions to the officials, and she said for us to keep that up, also so her girls wouldn't.

I then had a cordial but pointed conversation with Jim Murphy about resources for women's basketball, and progress in other sports' scholarships and such. He seemed forthright in talking about the steps forward (if sometimes glacial) and backwards. A bright spot has been the success of the matching gift fundraisers. (The baseball challenge is going on now. I hope my June gift to the DeBose scholarship fund will count toward that, especially since it would be 2 for 1.)

Then I saw Sterling Martin looking at the video board in the HOF room. He was particularly pleased that Brady Logan won the shot put championship, a sport he said that wasn't Davidson's best historically. But he went on to tell about how good Steve Kirley was. He had been state champion in high school, or some such.

i would be grateful if he didn't recall how slow I was.

Your name didn't come up in the conversation, so maybe not so fresh on his mind.

He would have no reason to remember me at all from back then, and not a lot to remember me now. I'm some guy he sees at organ concerts and sporting events. But he always greets me warmly, as I'm sure he does everybody.

A little over 40 years ago, Sterling called in a bunch of miscreants and told us we weren't going to graduate because we had not accumulated sufficient PE credits.

When he came to me, I listed 5-6 Intramural sports I had played and reffed. They counted for one. Club Football counted for another. Various Boy Scout merit badges counted for another. Writing the Intramural column for the Davidsonian one quarter counted for one.

Still one short, he read from a list. Near the end was the Boy Scout Mile Swim. I had done that. He said it would count for my last team/individual sport if I could prove it.

My mom found my certificate/award, photocopied it, and mailed that to me. Thanks to mom and Sterling!

PS. I still play softball. That should count for an extra credit.

I can make that at home, and sometimes do.

I went alone to 131 Main, where I had a wedge salad. I thought I had plans for supper, and didn't want to eat too much. I had to leave off the tomatoes this week.

The last time I looked at the roster we had two coaches. That number has changed. In the wrong direction. Anyone heard any rumors?

http://davidsonwildcats.com/news/2017/6/15/scherr-wells-and-boykin-join-womens-basketball-staff.aspx

As Derek promised, announcements of two additions to the coaching staff. I like the profiles, especially that Scherr-Weels has head coaching experience, Big 10 playing experience, and a reputation as am offensive guru. Boykin has ACC ties and is from NC. Add their backgrounds to our head coach (originally from the northeast but with good southeastern ties) and we should be reasonably well networked for recruiting.

Assume a 3rd coach will be added at some not too distant date.
