The official game recap ...
Wayzata put on a team basketball clinic today at Hopkins High School and those that paid the twelve dollar price all took home quality visuals to learn from.

The Trojan defensive communication, active hands and feet, positioning, and discipline completely stifled a quality Woodbury team to an 88-64 final score. Davidson bound Michael Jones fought through the well positioned defense for 35 points but without David Alston (all star football game) and DJ Fleming (missed a half for the ACT test) the Royals didn't have the fire power to combat Wayzata on either end.

Jacob Beeninga, Drew Galinson, and Luke Paulson combined for 13 three-point makes and 63 points spinning the heads of the Woodbury defense. With the floor spread and Jacob Beeninga carving up the interior it became next to impossible for Woorbury to cover the ground they needed to. Beeninga was the offensive MVP with 28, Galinson was the defensive game changer, and Paulson did a lot of both.

The MNCAT recap ... It looked like Davidson versus Charleston Southern. Wayzata shot an insane percentage of 3's, I believe greater than 70%, and their offense was well run thanks to Paulson. They were in constant motion and always seemed to find the open player. On defense, their plan was to swarm Jones and attack him. They were successful because the refs allowed them to play VERY physically. Michael was bloodied a couple of times and had to leave the game to get bandaged once. Jones scored 35. Yes 35 points after scoring 29 on Thursday night As Wildforthecats proclaims above there is a lot of Peyton in Michael's game. I believe he shot 50% from 3 (1 for 2) and easily had a double-double with at least five impressive assists. And when he was inside, he was comfortable getting slaughtered. He had a sweet putback where one arm was being held and another player had an arm draped over his shoulder. I do not know how the ball went in from his off hand, like the road runner he must never have studied the law (of physics).

Not MJ's best shooting game, but you can watch Thursday's tilt at Lakeville North here: http://prepspotlight.tv/MSHSL

Sounds like even when he isnt his best he's still pretty darn good. We got a steal.

That certainly brightened my day. And considering I’m staring into the Pacific from the 11th deck, it is sunny, 78 degrees, with a light breeze, you can appreciate what it takes to brighten my day further.

With all defenses centered on him, he makes only 35 points. Aw.

If Nate isn’t playing by Jan 1 we should RS. He’d help bridge gap to 19 and help with potential Nigerian target

That was a big game. Lakeville North won the state title last year. Big game. Had visitors in from as far away as Davidson, NC. The video of this game (free, high quality. Great service to the fans of Minnesota high school hoops) starts with the end of the JV game. Skip ahead to about the 43 minute mark. Jones is, obviously, #13 in grey. Impressive. Scored plenty. Tightly guarded by #31 in red, who is 6'7 and has several D1 schools interested. Also note the silver-haired gentleman in the 4th row behind the Woodbury bench.

Don't know Nate's status (although I am hoping he will be healthy enough to play this season), but whatever the case, it's highly unlikely he will be redshirting.

Why? If he can’t play due to injury - he should redshirt. We have five year players due to injury. Duke has players who have players injured within a month of season and NCAA grants RS. Given how weak we look up front next year it would keep us competitive if LUka doesn’t sign

There are a host of possible reasons. Maybe he's ready to graduate and start the rest of his life.

I think Nate will play Saturday. That is, unless he doesn't.

Perhaps he doesn't want to, perhaps the staff doesn't want him to, perhaps his injury is such that delaying another year won't make a difference, perhaps....
