Botched tackle much, much worse than Buckner play. Light years worse. No comparison.

Tackler failed doing something he should not have been trying to do at all. Buckner misplayed a ground ball.

Jay Williams. I just heard him say, "UConn's women would make the men's tournament." There should be a limit. There isn't.

Jay's a smart guy. If he said something stupid, there's probably a reason.

Kinda old, but this article from SI talks about the scout team for an elite NCAA women's team: http://on.si.com/2H9r8Xf

Misogyny isn't just the playground of lesser minds. Brilliant people--men and women--are routinely guilty of trying to judge the success of women based on how close it comes to a masculine ideal. In sports, politics, and academia especially.
JWill isn't stupid, but he said a stupid, offensive thing. There's never a good reason to be offensive.

Rewording people's posts is offensive to me.

I never said he had a good reason. I said he probably had a reason.

There are many reasons he may have said that. He's paid to. UConn is spectacular. Amazing team, amazing players, one of the best coaches in the history of basketball (any gender, any level). But UConn's women making the men's tournament? An analyst should know how to analyze. Or least know when to practice his shuttin' up skills.

Interesting discussion. I can remember when it was modestly offensive to state that women couldn't compete with men in basketball. Now I understand that stating the opposite is offensive. Perhaps Jay didn't get the new memo.

I'm offended by your offensive discussion concerning offense.

He clearly didn't.
I think most observers are starting to realize that when you say, "hey girl, you're almost as good at a man," you're necessarily implying women are normally inferior.
There are many ways to measure success, and some ways men will generally appear better and other ways women will. Jay's comment ignored that nuance...and that was stupid. Just a dumb comment, because gender is so much more complicated than that women being good enough to be compared to men.
