My daughter, son-in-law, and infant granddaughter got out of Asheville this evening. 26 to Spartanburg, 85, 77. Asheville is a mess. My other daughter stayed. No power, no water, only occasional cell service. Friends of Davidson Outdoors in Jonathan Creek, Del Rio, Hot Springs, etc are suffering.

My daughter in Greenville SC is without power and blocked in- by downed trees in one direction and downed power lines the other. No estimate yet for getting power back. The Duke Power outage map shows over 250k without power in her area.

Add Spartanburg and Clemson and there are over 500k without power.

I am powerless, but looking at video of the Asheville area makes me feel extremely fortunate. The Florida Big Bend, too, looks to have suffered severe damage.

Prayers for Dr. Bliss, I 77cat family, and all. Anyone heard from Dr. Bliss? Spotty or no cell service is a huge problem... May the recovery efforts be vast, quick and powerful. Samaritan's Purse has 5 sites or more set up to help plus assisting hospitals in need.

Dr. Bliss is OK. Plenty of food and water, but trying to conserve cell phone battery as he has no power. Cell signal comes and goes. He's cleared trees from his driveway but power lines have him blocked in.

Dr. Bliss on Facebook this morning:
Hi all. I’ve had very limited access to Facebook so this is just to let everyone know I’m ok. The house is undamaged. The driveway is still a mess, but once I got the downed trees moved I have been able to get up and down. Still no power, but the technicians are working pretty close to me so I believe it’ll happen before too long. I’ve been spending time clearing my own land and trying to help out in the community. Have chain saw, will travel. I consider myself pretty lucky really. This is going to be a long process. I’m sure y’all have seen more photos and video than I have. What I have seen is mind-blowing and very sad. Can’t help but feel that Mother Earth is angry at us.

Thank you. I'm sure he's regretting never getting that beer line installed from Pisgah Brewery to his house.

Rose came home to re-charge for a few days. She's headed back up on Sunday to go run 911 calls. The few folks I've talked to who are doing that report scenes even more nightmarish than what makes the news.

Bless your daughter for serving her community in this way. Continued prayers for those in WNC. We have power in our SC home; most of our family, too.
