I like playing former SoCon teams ETSU and VMI.

I wish we could play former SoCon teams that were closer to Charlotte-App St, Wofford, UNC-G. Elon.

Atlantic 10 makes it hard to do road trips, with the exception of Richmond schools (not easy there, either) so a couple of drivable non-conf games would be nice.

Detroit Mercy, Eastern Michigan (Steph Curry first game reprisal) and Bowling Green don't do much for me.

Temple is a decent game.

Charleston Southern-blah.

Weak OOC home schedule. You are not going to fill up the arener with that schedule.

But for the tourney, no Ivy, ACC, SEC, nor Big East. :(

You would think we could get 1 or 2 Big Guys on the schedule.
The tournament has a great field.
The Tourney held at the "Blue Lagoon" is a reward for the rabid Cat fans. It does little to build a solid, local fan base. Playing the other Universities of Blah will not attract local, non Davidson related fans nor attract any alums to drive in from out of town. Davidson tends to hold the college to high standards but schedule like we are going through the Goodwill bargain bin.

What home games do you suggest?

Good question. Without knowing the finances-

Butler plays in the Pioneer with us. Why not a home and home with this Big East team.
Wake should be on the schedule and should have been locked into playing some games in Belk.
High Point would bring more fans than Detroit Mercy.
We should play a big school in the Charlotte Coliseum to get our guys use to playing in caverns.
App would be better than VMI
College of Charleston > Charleston Southern
A home and home with and Ivy would be nice for recruiting

For goodness sake at one time we played West Virginia, Duke, UNC, Notre Dame, UCLA, St Johns, etc.

Schedule teams that fill up the arena and help bring in top recruits. Bethune Cookman & Eastern Michigan will be lucky to fill the lower bowl.
The atmosphere is Belk has been dropping off. Sometimes there is more energy in a bowling alley.

The days of playing Power 6 schools outside a tournament are over and will never return. The ACC, with 19 members, now requires each team to play 20 conference games. Those teams also play early season tournaments, plus a holiday tournament, plus the ACC-Big 10 Challenge games, plus the conference tournament, plus a few early season patsies. They can fill their arenas even when playing the likes of Bethune-Cookman and William Peace, so why risk an L against Davidson? Beating Davidson doesn't really help their RPI/NET, but losing to us is a real anchor. Scheduling one ACC opponent every 3-4 years, and only at their arena, is the best we can hope for.
"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''

Davidson's home schedule is horrible. Other teams in the A10 can schedule home games against good opponents. When the seat ransom policy started, fans were told that we weren't charging nearly as much as Dayton and VCU. And we shouldn't. Those places routinely sell every seat and have waiting lists. Here's what resources do for you: this year Dayton hosts UNLV, Marquette, New Mexico State, Xavier, and Northwestern. And some crappy teams, too.

I haven't looked at VCU's OOC home schedule, but I'll guarantee you it is markedly better than ours.

I have no problem with our schedule. Hopefully, we can get a bunch of wins to gain confidence going into league play.

Here is the average Masset Ratings (Home/Neutral/Away) for DC vs VCU vs Dayton.

Does not include non-D1. Dayton does play Xavier but it's an exhibition game in mid-October.

Davidson - 323.85 / 66.85 / 182
VCU - 315.83 / 72.44 / 46
Dayton - 204.13 / 22.38 / No away games

VCU hosts Penn, too, but their schedule is surprisingly wimpy.

St, Mary's is a D2 or D3 team and it is an exhibition. Elizabeth City State is a D2 team, too.

Penn is their best nonconference opponent by far.

Dayton playing Xavier, even in an exhibition, is surprising. Supposedly Xavier has kept Dayton out of the Big East.

I have been lobbying for scheduling a home and home with Bucknell for several years now. An Ivy opponent, preferably Princeton, would add luster to our OOC schedule as well. Davidson should play other schools that also play be the rules, by way of having actual student athletes. Institutions of higher learning that do it right should support each other.

By playing by the rules I was referring to the requirements that the Princeton athletes must legitimately perform in the classroom taking actual college level, rigorous courses. Not no show classes as we know are offered at schools like UNC.
