WSJ rankings

Post by stevelee » Thu Sep 05, 2024 11:56 am

Yale University and Claremont McKenna College round out the top five, in that order, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at No. 6, Harvard University at No. 7 and Davidson College at No. 10 fill out the top 10. In all, 500 colleges are ranked.

Different rankings have different criteria.

We fell a lot in USNWR when they put an emphasis on the number of Pell grants.

Yes. I sense that the quality of the College is consistently high, but the criteria change annually. It seems as if post-graduation earning has been given some additional weight this year. That, of course, may penalize the school for producing graduates who embark on careers of service to others.

There could easily be some negative correlations between WSJ and USNWR criteria.

Also, USNWR criteria seem to favor the military academies, as they rank all 3 of them ahead of Davidson.

Babson #2 ??? Never heard of it.
"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''

As I think about criteria, I am reminded that I picked the three schools I considered because they had good chemistry departments.
