If he’s ready for the NBA next year, we should really get a really good year from him.

Might as well enter every year. No harm in it.

Agreed. If we get a 'Steph year' from Robert's, he will have demonstrated all the TCC necessary.

One more step in seeking players who have little interest in a Davidson education. :x

It may be hard to retire any Jerseys in the future.

I agree that it is sad that we are now seeking players who will only be with us at most one year (Zack Laput) and one whose intent is to leave after one year even though he will have 3 more years of eligibility.

However, do we really have any other viable options if we want to remain competitive in D1 basketball? Matt has been dealt a bad hand with the Portal changes but it looks like he is trying to do what apparently needs to be done for us to remain competitive.

Same thing in work life these days - everybody is always looking. It's a new world. You have to always be hiring in business, and in college sports you have to always be recruiting.

Its all a matter of perspective or spin. Were getting a player who buys into the program and Davidson so much that theyre excited to come to be part of the school/community for just one year when they almost certainly had numerous offers to play for schools where they could have started a free year of grad school. Or were getting a freshman that is talented enough and has enough confidence in himself and Davidson to put him in a position that he could make the NBA a year from now.

Also since i hadnt already said it, very excited to have Roberts!! I think hell be a joy to watch and its a big addition for the team.

Early departures suck, but if my son were enrolled at Davidson and in his junior year got an opportunity to work for a top notch company in his chosen field for a few hundred grand a year, I couldn't exactly be upset that he took the opportunity.

College ostensibly prepares us for adulthood and a career in a chosen field. If the NBA says one of our guys is ready after year one, then Davidson did its job, I guess.

Id imagine if Blums wants to play in the NBA, he came to Davidson to play point guard a la Steph his junior year.

That'd be great. He doesn't look like an NBA shooting guard.

This guy is ok, but he is not an nba player. Why anyone would worry that he is a one and done is beyond me. If he starts as a freshman I will be very happy.

+1. He has his sights set on a big goal, so the drive and work ethic will be there, which is great news for him and for us. But he has a lot to improve upon to get to that level and it will take time.

My primary concern is what happens if/when he gets benched, asked to be a screener, or more generally put the team first. What makes Steph great (and other recent Davidson stars like Aldridge, JAG, Luka, etc) is they loved doing the little things to win and putting their teammates first. To me that’s not something Blums obviously has, but I trust our coaching staff and I hope he proves me wrong!

His father was a big time player in the Euro League for many years. I expect that this kid has been schooled in all the little things and won't have a me-first mentality. But, fingers crossed.
