Roberts Blums - 6'3" SG from Latvia - posted about his visit to Davidson yesterday.

He was also at UNCC the day before. Let's hope his experience at Exit 30 was better than the one down the road! He'd be a great addition.

More discussion of his prospects here:

Looks like a very fine player. And a great shooter. Fingers crossed.

Exciting prospect. Wonder what brand of shoes he collects?

I believe that this wftc's 5/15 guy. Big-time shooter.

A couple more Blums links:

He has withdrawn from the 2024 NBA Draft: https://www.si.com/nba/draft/newsfeed/2 ... hz64q92dtw

Summary of his exploits last summer: https://www.fiba.basketball/europe/u18b ... division-b. Blums tore it up at last summer’s FIBA U18 Division B championship. He led Latvia to the championship and was named MVP. (UNC’s Elliott Cadeau was the MVP th e previous year.)

Here’s Blums’s stats page from the 2023 tournament:

Probably trying to decide which NIL deal to accept. Curry brand would be good.

They rolled out the red carpet at UNCC. Photo and video shoot in their gear etc. They must like him a lot. Guessing a $250k offer from the 49er's

International players are in the US on student visas. There are restrictions on them working/earning income.

I read a piece by the U of Oregon general counsel cautioning that they should not participate in NIL unless they can do all of the “work” while outside the US. Perhaps there have been developments since the opinion was written.

This is not an NCAA rule. It’s a condition of a student’s immigration status.

Finally a little something to 'level the playing field"

When the NLRB issued the moronic opinion that Dartmouth BB players were employees, they didn't think about the deportation of foreign student-athletes. It's a real issue.

Have foreign student-athletes been deported because of this change?
I wonder if there's a movement to get international recruits on H2B visas.

It might be a stretch to meet the provision of H2B that, "There are not enough U.S. workers who are able, willing, qualified, and available to do the temporary work."

Maybe if the qualifications for the work were tied to ability to gain admission and retain academic eligibility? IDK...spitballing

How will players pay the $5,000+ payroll taxes on their scholarships if they are employees?
