The guy I heard a rumor about isn't from the portal. Not sure if that's the same guy wftc was referring to. He sounded certain. The shooting guard I heard about was a hopeful maybe.

The wages of . . . wages?
From a very reliable source, the MSRP at Vanderbilt:
On the team = $100K
Starter = $250-350K
All-conference + $750K

Depressing! I’ve been waiting weeks for the signing of 1-2 players they said was going to happen and still with a date set, nothing! I spend 20 times a day checking this site for some positive news. I guess I need to get a life
Re: Portal
There may still be time left to shore up our needs, however, I’m starting to worry we may have a positional skill set deficit at point guard.

The worrisome thing to me is that some of our fans think we'll be good to very good without further additions. I fear that our coaches think the same. Without additional players, I think we are what we've been for the last two years---good enough to make good teams have to really work to beat us. And weak enough that no game is a guaranteed win.

What are the NIL collectives paying at schools DC has actually competed with on the recruiting front? Or the schools behind Davidson that could potentially catch and pass the program?JerseyLawyer wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 3:00 pmThe wages of . . . wages?

Old news. 2 months ago. It suggests that A10 schools median pay to a starter would be $50k. 10th percentile is $25k, 90th percentile is $300k.
Here is total team compensation: https://twitter.com/JasonBelzer/status/ ... 17/photo/1
So median of $500k at our tier. I'm sure it is comfortably higher now. And the teams at the top of the A10 are going to be way above that.

Someone should get involved. This is not NIL, this is simply pay to play.
Money should be taxed and donations given to these funds should not be tax deductable.

I seem to recall that there is some indication that the IRS agrees with you. If I'm remembering right Michigan converted their fund to a taxable entity rather than trying to conjure up some "charitable activities" that the athletes were purportedly doing.85Wildcatsky wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 6:39 pmSomeone should get involved. Others may be living on the edge. I'm not sure who's liable for taxes if the IRS rules against you down the line.

Or maybe common sense? College basketball is becoming less and less appealing to me as this process plays itself out.
"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''

Re: Portal
I’m not a tax lawyer but I once stayed at a Holiday Inn that called me Gerg. But that’s another story. The NIL pay to the players is taxable income. And if the “charity” NIL fund loses its status as a qualified organization, the donors lose their ability to deduct the contributions.quickcat wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 8:39 pmI seem to recall that there is some indication that the IRS agrees with you.
