Portal
Re: Portal
I was mowing the yard this afternoon, wearing a sleeveless AND1 jersey. Beautiful day. Hope I didn't disturb the neighbors with my gratuitous display of flabby old skin. It was the backyard, though.

PS about Enright. In what sector of the metaverse does the SMU job become better than Southern Cal???
Re: Portal
I liked him a lot at Dunk City.

Comer was a spectacular point guard. At least for that tournament run.

Exactly...bigger budget and salary. And a lot closer to being on the right side of the Mississippi. Don't be surprised to see Gottlieb to leave her head job for USC women and take Tennessee job after they fired Kelly Harper today.Waitress wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 10:56 pmACC>BIG Ten ?JerseyLawyer wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 9:06 pmPS about Enright. SMU’s AD is Rick Hart. He was AD at Chattanooga. His father, Dave Jr. was AD at FSU. His grandfather, Dave, was SoCon commissioner after being a fb coach and AD.
Re: Portal
Just speculating, but by changing schools the "clock" starts over again on his contract and the expectations. He hasn't really delivered the results USC was looking for when he was hired. OK, but not great. Unless you win National Titles, patience wears thin at some schools.Waitress wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 10:56 pmACC>BIG Ten ?JerseyLawyer wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 9:06 pmPS about Enright. Re: Portal
Any rumblings out there from the popcorn gallery as to when we might announce a portal signing or two?

Re: Portal
Last I heard, we might pick up a guy from W&M and a tall guy from Buffalo.
Re: Portal
Was that recent or two years ago?
Re: Portal
I comment because of care for Davidson basketball and not to argue with some posters. With apologies, I wonder about the sentiment expressed herein that Davidson should not take a player who might only be at Davidson for one year. Why not take someone who is talented and can contribute greatly for one year? Other schools are doing it. I would want a healthy year from a guy who can help us win as much as other scenarios such as there for 3 years injured and plays for one season.
And given the overall situation, put their name on the back of the jersey please! It is time to adapt to changing times with regard to the no names. Just an opinion. And too many reasons to list but one is: given the turnover, names help the fans learn faster who is who. Another: The TV announcers on ESPN plus would probably call the name of the player more often if a name were on the back of jersey. RECOGNITION. If our NIL payments are of concern, at least give the guy some easier name recognition by putting a name on the jersey. I understand the reasons we do not do so, but seems like it is a season to yield on the whole only Davidson on the jersey thing.

Nah, let's be different.
It doesn't seem to hurt Purdue.
Maybe bring back a Maloy/Cook/Kroll era jersey.

Frankly, I am very against the one-and-out kid. We are not like every other school - that's what makes us what we are. Frankly, does anyone actually think a one-year player would go to class at all spring term? I probably wouldn't have. Makes a mockery of the purpose of the school.
I'm delighted to take kids that have two or more years remaining. We should be aggressive in the portal for those kids.
NIL!NIL!NIL! Let's raise some money!
I think Hussey had names on the back of the jersey. I know Bidenbach did. The elder McKillop always said the only thing on the jersey that matters is the name on the front.
Another conversation - I think we need to think hard about ditching or greatly modifying the motion offense.

Re: Portal
I, too, have wondered about the motion offense given that we may not have players for an entire four year cycle. It’s difficult to learn, so is it still a legit offense if we start relying more and more on the portal?

Names were on the back of our jerseys until about 1994-1995.
