I just visited Utah's campus. Crazy maze of buildings and roads on the side of a big hill. Very few trees. Hot and dry. Interesting in its own way but not a place I would want to visit for long.
"That wasn't an upset tonight," Kansas coach Bill Self said glumly. "They controlled the game," Self said. "They whipped us."

You are describing most of southern California. Battin would likely be very comfortable in that environment.GoCats wrote:Crazy maze of buildings and roads on the side of a big hill. Very few trees. Hot and dry. Interesting in its own way but not a place I would want to visit for long.

"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''

I do as the wizards tell me.wildforthecats wrote:Have faith, young grasshopper.BaseRich306 wrote:I have a really bad feeling about Battin and Utah and would be thrilled to be wrong. They just got a commitment from a 4 star wing who visited the same weekend as Riley. Entering big mo territory, as coach would say.
I believe it's between us and Utah. Ohio State just signed a player who projects to play a very similar role to Battin. I don't think the Vandy visit has even been scheduled (could be wrong about that one).

I think that Vandy will sign at least three this year and could sign four. It is definitely looking for one 4/5. I am not sure if Riley is a top priority for Vandy, but I believe he still has a visit scheduled for October 20. The last update has him visiting his four finalists, in this order: Davidson, Utah, Ohio State, Vanderbilt.

Riley Battin interview with Utah radio station. Seems to really like them: https://espn700sports.com/interviews/ri ... t-9-20-17/
It seems like the staff has put a ton of time and effort into scouting and recruiting top tier talent for this class and upcoming classes. When I see Davidson pop-up as potential destination for a player we are often mentioned with schools from the PAC 12, ACC, BIG10, SEC, and other high profile conferences.
Schools from these conferences have built in advantages that are admittedly tough to beat. I'm hopeful that Jim Murphy and the Athletic Administration are doing everything in their power to give our coaches the support they need to compete nationally. But I'm worried our AD is in over his head against his peers.
In Riley Battin's interviews he continues to mention strength and conditioning and weight facilities. I hope our administration's inability to hire a Head Strength Coach won't negatively impact our chances with top level talent. We've been without a Head Strength and Conditioning coach since June.
It would be shameful if this was the deciding factor between us and our competitors. What's the point of traveling across the country, overseas, and hosting families for visits if we aren't committed to providing our coaches and current athletes what they need to excel?
