Tournament records
Somehow this morning I thought about Davidson team tournament heights, and these occurred to me:
National championships in bridge, College Bowl, and croquet
Final Four in soccer
Super regional in baseball
Tangerine Bowl in football
Elite Eight in men's basketball
Others?

Yes...not to diminish the accomplishment, but as DIII champions if that matters to the discussionwildforthecats wrote:Women's Tennis National Champions in the 80's.

They were DIII champs in '84 and runners up in '85.
Three Elite Eight appearances in men's basketball.
The women's soccer team won the SoCon in '99(?) and played South Carolina in the NCAA Tournament. The men won the SoCon in '95 and played Bowling Green. (Someone in Ohio.) Alex Deegan was still in goal.

Works for me. I was already listing rather unlike things together, and not really intending comparisons.collegecoach8502 wrote:Yes...not to diminish the accomplishment, but as DIII champions if that matters to the discussionwildforthecats wrote:Women's Tennis National Champions in the 80's.

Champions is Champions. Our lads and lasses can only whoop the opponents what's put in front of them: DIII, DII, DI-AA, DI, or whatever.collegecoach8502 wrote:Yes...not to diminish the accomplishment, but as DIII champions if that matters to the discussionwildforthecats wrote:Women's Tennis National Champions in the 80's.

Might be the 2009 season you're thinking of? I know that squad won the SoCon (a double OT goal by Amanda Flink won the title match) and then lost at South Carolina in the Big Dance.citycat wrote: The women's soccer team won the SoCon in '99(?) and played South Carolina in the NCAA Tournament.
Then next year, I became the radio announcer for the team and jinxed them

I am on this team (we don't cut anyone who comes out) and I didn't know whether to post how we finished because we're technically a club team (we compete against DI and DIII teams, there is no DII, and play in DIII post season tournaments).Waitress wrote:Ultimate frisbee national runners-up (D3).

Also: In classic Davidson fashion we were a pseudo Cinderella story as we were an 8 seed that went all the way to the national championship game.BDL wrote:I am on this team (we don't cut) and I didn't know whether to post how we finished because we're technically a club team (we compete against DI and DIII teams, there is no DII, and play in DIII post season tournaments).Waitress wrote:Ultimate frisbee national runners-up (D3).
fun little story: One morning this year we were all in Richardson Circle getting ready to leave for a tournament at about 6 am (we travel in the cars some of the guys drive to school) and a large portion of the basketball team saw us and yelled (mainly Magarity and Peyton if I remember correctly) something along the lines of "hey look Davidson sports people: go Davidson! good luck guys and win something." Now we were all groggy eyed and cranky because we had a 3 hour drive ahead of us and we just wanted some Chic Fil A breakfast but the basketball guys were cheery and perfectly awake. Why half of the team was up on a Saturday at 6am and randomly walking around campus I will never know, but it was on of the strangest and oddly cool moments I had freshman year.stevelee wrote:That's great.
