Current A-10 Standings:

http://www.atlantic10.com/standings/Standings.dbml

VCU, RI, St. Bona, and St. Louis are in.

Fordham, Dayton, UMass, Richmond, and La Salle are out.

The last three tourney slots are up for grabs among GW, the Cats, St. Joe, and Mason. Two crucial games tomorrow will decide it all:
St. Joe @ GW and St. Lou @ Mason. There are four possible outcomes (see tiebreakers in following post):

1) If GW wins, they are in and the Cats are in. If Mason also wins, St. Joe is out, and Mason is in and tied for sixth with the Cats. Since we did not play each other in the regular season, record against common conf. opponents (tiebreaker B) gives the Cats the six-seed.

2) If GW wins and Mason loses, GW and the Cats are in (Cats alone in sixth) and Mason and St. Joe are tied for seventh. (St. Joe won the regular season series, so they would be in by tiebreaker A.)

3) If St. Joe wins and Mason loses, Mason is out, GW, the Cats, and St. Joe are all in at 13-11, with whatever tiebreaker there is deciding the seeding, fifth through seventh. (I'm not sure about this tiebreaker. If it is 3-way head-to-head, since all three teams played the other two, it would be St. Joe, Cats, GW.)

4) If St. Joe and Mason both win, there will be a four-way tie at 13-11 (Cats, GW, Mason, St. Joe). Three of these teams will be in, based on tiebreakers. This is the only scenario in which the Cats could miss the tourney, if we come in last in the four-way tiebreaker. I have absolutely no idea how this would work. Someone smarter than I am can look at the tiebreaker list and tell us how it would work out.

Go, Cats!

A-10 BASEBALL SEEDING & TIE BREAKER PROCEDURES

Seeding for the Championship will be based on overall Conference winning percentage.

In the event of a tie, the following tie-breaker system will be used.
A. Head to head competition
B. Winning percentage versus common Conference opponents.
C. Each team’s winning percentage versus the highest common opponent in the standings and continuing down through the lowest common opponent in the standings, if necessary.
D. Run differential of the tied teams (maximum of ten runs per game).
E. Run differential against common conference opponents (maximum of ten runs per game).
F. Run differential versus the highest common opponent in the standings and continuing down through the lowest common opponent in the standings, if necessary (maximum of ten runs per game).

NOTE: When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing the run differential, use each team’s combined run differential against the tied teams as a group rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.

G. Coin flip if a tie exists among two teams and a draw if a tie exists among three or more teams.

All ties will be broken in descending order. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the tied teams as a group rather than the performance against individual tied teams. Once ties are broken, they remain broken throughout the tie-breaker process.

When a tie is broken at any point and teams remain the tiebreaker begins a new with the remaining tied teams.

Mason won. GW leads St Joe 4-1 after 7. Hang on GW.

GW's website says they won, 5-1. That means we're in, right?

The good news for the A10 is that St. Louis is in. Attendance would be sparse if the Billikens had not qualified.

According to the A10 website, we are the 6th seed and open against 3rd seed St. Bonaventure. The game is at 10:00 AM CDT on 5/24/17.

Go Cats!

We won the series at home in the regular season. A pair of 9-2 victories followed by a 17-4 loss. Slay them all!
