No A-10 series this weekend, but we do have three games vs the Aggies. Two games are in historic War Memorial Stadium and one in Davidson. The Greensboro games are Friday and Sunday - the game in Davidson on Saturday.

The Cats are 18-16 with an RPI of #196. The Aggies are 20-15 with an RPI of #197. Doesn't get closer than that.

This would be a good series to win.

If memory serves War Memorial was used in Bull Durham for the manufactured rain out site.

For years A&T played football there. The left field wall came down and the foul line was a boundary line. There were bleacher seats down that line that ran about 30 yards beyond the fence.

It was designed to be a football/track stadium. It hosted 100s of college and high school football games. Davidson may have played UNC there in 1926. That may have been the stadium's first college game.

Only after a few years was the field widened for baseball. A piped up creek runs under right field. On humid nights, it gets slippery in right. The dimensions say right field is the same distance as left, but left handed hitters have always hit better there.

PS. Warren Nolan says we're up 6-0 in the 6th.

I went. O'Linger was great. CF Cam Johnson went deep twice.

The park is in baaaaad shape. I probably played 50 games there in Colt League, HS, Legion, and summer ball in the 70s and 80s. It wasn't a gem then, but it was a serviceable active minor league park. Now it's a dump. They should save the entrance and demolish the rest. Then they should rebuild a 500 seat grandstand and press box and put another 500 bleacher seats down the lines.

90 years appears to be the useful life for a concrete stadium in North Carolina. Richardson Field is about the same age.

The stadium is owned by the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department. There is no money to do the changes catnhat suggests. The only paying tenants are A&T and Greensboro College. The park is used for adult and youth baseball games, but those groups use the field, they don't care about the stands.

Greensboro has done some weird things with public facilities. A 1950s era elementary school was razed about a decade ago rather than allow a charter school to lease it. A damaged swimming pool at a high school was filed in and the building leveled.

War Memorial has been without a minor league team since the fall of 2004. It has continued to deteriorate since then, despite its history and current tenants.

There is an electronic scoreboard- nothing fancy, but it wasn't used tonight. At least they announced the score each half inning. Even though the permanent speakers don't work. The PA folks had two big speakers placed on seats at each end of the press box. Many of the actual seats are recycled from the Greensboro Coliseum ( back when it held 16k). They haven't aged well outdoors. The ballpark in Asheboro has about 350 of the same seats, but they are all under the grandstand. The good news is that there is plenty of legroom since they could only put those seats in every other row since they are several inches deeper than the bleacher seats they replaced.

Smutzer went 7 complete and left with a 1-11 lead. Lebek has a homer. Jones has 2. Each of Jones' homers came after Fortier led off an inning by getting hit by a pitch. Can't wait to see the highlights.

1-11 in the bottom of the 8th. Walk, single, walk loads the bases for the Wildcats. Acosta grounds into a double play. 1-12. Pracher pinch hits for Fortier. Marshall at third. Pracher walks. Jones is up with runners at the corners. Flies out. 12 runs on 13 hits for the Cats. Good thing we are playing 2 games today. Weather tomorrow looks wet.

If LiveStats is current, we're up 4 - 0 with A&T batting, top of fourth.
