Only a few of the thinclads actually competed this weekend but a freshwoman broke the school javelin record by 40 feet. Yes, 40 feet. She broke the record by 20 feet with her first college throw, then improved another 20 feet later.

Her toss of 150-7 is farther than 1st place in last year's A-10 championship. It qualifies, or nearly qualifies, for the NCAA championship.

I tried to throw one a long time ago. Looks simple. It ain't. Amazing how much it curves if you don't have good technique.

I tried once as well, as part of "let's try decathlon events" with a friend. Sidearm is not the technique you want to use, unless you want the thing to hit you in the back of the head.
