Recruits always say they love the area but then they transfer when they don't get playing time. The kid will play wherever he knows he can get time and is comfortable with the coaching staff (also Pac-12 and SEC are very different and Martin may want something different if he takes a new job.)CatsUpNorth wrote:While Martin is known as a good recruiter for developing relationships with players, Anticevich's quotes after committing implied he became enamored with the Bay Area. So he may decide to decommit or decide he wants to stay because he committed for reasons other than the coach.citycat wrote:Why wouldn't Anticevich follow Martin wherever he goes, or stay with Cal if Cuonzo stays there?
Also possible and worth noting that we may decide we don't want to recruit him after he chose to commit elsewhere, although I cannot speak to the mindset of the coaching staff in such situations

2018 major target Hunter Tyson is apparently playing with team CP3 in the Nike EYBL this summer. The reason this is a big deal is he previously played for Brendan Winters PSB (and Under Armour affiliated) team which was (and I would say still is) a big reason we have a shot at getting him. However, Tyson playing in Nike tournaments for a major team indicates he's interested in expanding the group of major conference schools recruiting him, and the more big-time programs that get involved, the more our chances diminish.

I know sometimes people are concerned with traveling. Systems recruits play for but I believe it has more to do with increasing level of competition. If you play well yes big programs will find you. But even then it's a soft argument because there internet has made the world of recruiting flat. Players are still going for best school offering based upon level of play and education. Nike vs UA who cares. Selfishly, I do think recruits like the swag appeal of certain schools. Davidson could up the game here: red, black, white, gray uni? Multiple shoe combos.

I've posted this before, but coaches in their own words explaining if shoe brands impact their recruiting (and it doesn't have to do with "coolness"): http://www.cbssports.com/college-basket ... ommitment/DCA06 wrote:Nike vs UA who cares.

Kellan Grady had 23 points in the quarterfinals of the National Prep Championship leading his team to victory. Highlights are fun because he's involved in almost every play, showing off his athleticism and floaters: https://twitter.com/MikeYagmiNERR/statu ... 5719777282

While we still have business to take care of this season, the future is bright. Kellan Grady, after scoring 28 in the semifinal earlier today, just lost in the National Prep Championship but he did everything in his power to keep them in the game, hitting tough floaters and deep threes consistently, scoring 31 in a 72-71.
The game was broadcast on youtube and hopefully it's archived, since watching it could make for some great offseason Kool-aid. If it is archived I'll post it here, because it is clear we have an exceptional player coming our way who's ceiling is hard to see but is extremely ready today.

You are going to be very pleased with Carter Collins and Bates Jones too.2008wildcat wrote:I saw on Twitter today that Luke Frampton wished his future teammate Kellan Grady luck in the prep finals. While that's simply the nice thing to do, it warmed my heart that these two already have a bond. It looks like we have another pair of just genuinely good young men joining the team next year.
