Oops, forgot...
Friday game already underway: 0-0. Saturday and Sunday also at 3pm and 1pm respectively.
The Billikens are 22-8 and #115 in the RPI. We are 14-17 and #242. They are second in the A10 at 4-2 and we are tied for 9th at 2-4. We need to scratch out a win to stay good for the tournament next month (top 7 make it).

Wild pitch, walks, shenanigans in the 8th. 6-13, still counting.

Re: Up next: at St Louis
I remembered, but I just didn't have the heart to watch another slow-motion train wreck. Box score says three relievers pitched the bottom of the 8th and gave up 6 runs on 2 hits, plus 7 free passes.
On a much happier note, my grandnephew Jacob is a junior reliever for the Greensboro Grimsley Whirlies. So far this season he has pitched 16 innings in 8 appearances and has allowed 1 earned run. He has struck out 30, his ERA is 0.56, and his WHIP is 0.937. He's also wicked smart. His grandfather and his father are both UNC alums, and Jacob is a life-long Tar Heel fan, so I'm afraid the chances of getting him to Davidson are slim, but he is certainly worth contacting.
"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''
Re: Up next: at St Louis
Thomas Whelan was Davidson's first pitcher out of the bullpen. He faced 2 Billikens and struck out both. The game was 6-6 when he departed.
Maybe he can rest up Saturday and be available Sunday.
I'm glad Jacob is having a good year, because Grimsley is not having a good season on the diamond. That often happens when the school board tears down your college quality baseball park (built by UNCG in the early 1990s when they added baseball) to build a replacement middle school.
They've built some batting cages next to the tennis courts at GHS, but there's no place for the pitchers or fielders to work out.
The school board also did not rebuild an indoor swimming pool that was damaged in a windstorm about 15 years ago.
I hope someone guards Sawyer Gym at night.

Re: Up next: at St Louis
Cavanaugh for 6, followed by Weber for 3, or maybe Weber for 2 and Whelan for 1, could do it. Any other combination of relievers would be unlikely to close it out. Go Cats.i77cat wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 9:05 amhttps://www.warrennolan.com/baseball/20 ... m=Davidson
He predicts that we'll beat SLU 8-6 today.

Re: Up next: at St Louis
And if the starter gives up 6 hits, 6 runs, 3 walks in 3.1 innings? No chance. We're down 0-6 in the 6th.

Yep, but only 3 of the runs were earned.

Champey, Dunagan, and Katz pitched pretty well in relief. They held SLU scoreless for the last 4 innings.
We have lost 5 straight.

Re: Up next: at St Louis
His updated predictions say we'll beat SLU 6-5 today. They are twice as good as us by RPI. They've won the games against our 2 best starters. We are due for a game with a bunch of errors. Winning 6-5 seems unlikely. Still wouldn't put legal money on it. Sweeps are hard.i77cat wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 9:05 amhttps://www.warrennolan.com/baseball/20 ... m=Davidson

Re: Up next: at St Louis
Sweep is happening. They hit two of our batters in the top of the first. We didn't score. Feczko hit their first guy. Next guy reached on an error by our third baseman. We hit the next batter. Then they started hitting the ball. Down 0-5 after 1.
