Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Warren Nolan says we'll get swept at VCU, beat Winthrop at home, get swept at SLU, lose at Winthrop. Losing 7 of 8 would stink. Let's steal some wins. Go Cats.

Good start. First two guys struck out, next 3 walked. Then a single put us up 2-0. Now we're down 2-3 in the top of the 3rd.

Up 8-4, lost 8-10. Walk-off 2-run bomb.

Lost on a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 9th - 10-8. Hit the ball well - that's about it.

I followed livestats for a while today. We jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Then 2-1. Then 4-1. Still 4-2 to start the bottom of the 8th. We hit the first guy and walked the next two. I stopped looking. Just checked and I see that the Rams put 5 across that evening. We lost 4-7.

Mercifully, I didn't watch any of it. Looking at the box score, Cavanaugh pitched 6 brilliant innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks, 1 HBP, and 6 strikeouts. He gave way to Fix, who pitched 2 abysmal innings, allowing 5 runs on 1 hit, 6 walks, and 1 HBP. He got his 6 outs on a fly ball and 5 strikeouts, so he evidently had good stuff, but wasn't able to get it over the plate. So VCU got 7 runs on only 4 hits. Man, it's hard to watch that kind of baseball.

Amazing patience to watch a reliever load the bases without a hit, then walk in two runs to tie the game, then give up a bases clearing double to put us in a 3 run hole. We left him in after he surrendered 5 runs and he struck out a batter to end the inning.

Was there no one left in the bull pen?

We gave up 5 runs to go from a 2 run lead to a 3 run deficit.

There was a minor league pitcher in the '50s and '60s named Steve Dalkowski who threw hard, but rarely over the plate. He struck out a lot of guys because every hitter was told to take a strike or two. He gave up a many runs. Many teams gave him a chance in the minors, but never in the show.

I have been out paddling among manatees, alligators, and an enormous school of dieting tarpon. I see that we're being shutout through 8 innings. Maybe Warren Nolan was right. Looks like a sweep.

Still bottom 8. We've filled the bases with Rams with 1 out. And we did it in typical Wildcat style----HBP, walk, walk.

5-0 now.

We might impose a rule that when a reliever walks 2 guys in the same inning, he comes out.

Champey left at 0-2, 1 out, loaded. Whelan came in. All of Champey's boo-boos scored. Whelan's first guy had scored. 0-6, 2 out, runner at first.
