Shaky start for Cavanaugh. PSU got 3 runs in the 1st on 2 walks and 3 hits. Cats got 2 back in the bottom of the 1st. Neither team scored in the 2nd. Cavanaugh walked the 1st batter in the 3rd, then threw the ball over the 1st baseman's head on a pickoff attempt. The runner went to 3rd on the error and scored on a sac fly. Score is now 4-2 PSU.

I take back all the praise I heaped on our ESPN+ production crew for our first few games. Today's video stream is terrible. We have only one camera on top of the press box, so we are seeing only a panoramic view of the entire field, and it is overexposed. Also, there is no superimposed scoreboard. Instead, the camera crew zooms in on the actual scoreboard in right field between each half inning. I'm assuming this half-a***d effort is due to the students being out on Spring Break.

Cats get 1 back in the 4th on single > single > sac bunt > fielder's choice. PSU got 4 more in the 5th (so far) on 2 walks from Cavanaugh > pitching change (Isaac Fix) > wild pitch > 2-run single > 2 more walks > another 2-run single. Fix followed that with another walk, so he is leaving after allowing 3 walks and 2 singles. Dunagan throws 1 pitch and gets the 3rd out. 8-3.

6 of Penn State's 8 runs have been scored by base runners who reached on free passes, and 7 of them were scored with 2 outs.

Wilhoit cranked a 2-run shot to left to make it 9-5 in the bottom of the 7th. We just added another. 9-6. Pitching change.

No concessions today. I assumed it would be that way so I stopped and got food on the way. Got some jealous looks while enjoying my loaded hot dogs. Having watched the first few innings on TV and being here in person now, I'm happy to report that the field and players aren't actually watery and out of focus. It's just our low standards. Again.

We out hit them 14-10, but they outwalked us 13-2. We have no chance of winning a game in which we allow 13 free baserunners.
