After 8 games and 66 innings pitched, our pitching staff has issued 63 walks. This is a rate of 8.59 walks per 9 innings, which puts us about #277 out of 294 D1 teams. The staff ERA is 11.18, which also ranks around #277 in that category. Our WHIP (Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched) is 2.21, good for #267 in D1.
Today's game went only 6 1/2 innings because of the 7-inning mercy rule. Rucker used 9 pitchers, giving several seldom-used guys a chance for some game experience. Only 2 of the 9, Micah Baermann and Will Banks, escaped without allowing any runs. Baermann is in his 4th year on the team, and he had never pitched in a game before today. Although he gave up a single, that runner was erased with a DP, and Baermann was the only Davidson pitcher to get three up and three down.
