Good Day For a Wildcat

Post by citycat » Sun May 26, 2024 3:43 pm

Chris Pollard's (DU '96) Duke Blue Devils defeated FSU 16-4 in the ACC Championship this afternoon in Charlotte.

Duke was ranked 17th in Warren Nolan's RPI. Winning the ACC title over the 8th ranked Seminoles should boost Duke into the top 16 and allow them to host a Regional.

UNC and Wake should host Regionals. ECU was in line to host one, but a poor performance in the AAC Tournament has dropped them out of the top 16.

I'm rooting for Duke until someone points out another Davidson alum coaching a team in the Tournament.

ECU lost 2 potential first team AAs (both pitchers) and a National POY candidate in the last couple of weeks. They also lost another very fine reliever.

Don't know if any of those guys will be back for the tourney.

They swept State and won their series with Carolina so if the NCAA does as they say (entire body of work) they should still host. But we will see.

Peter Hughes’ K-State team is projected to be a 3 seed in the tournament.

Mik Aoki just finished his 1st season at Richmond. They will not be in the tournament.

There's an article on ESPN that says 5 ACC teams, but not Duke, will host NCAA Regionals. 5 SEC schools will host Regionals, too.

ECU is hosting a Regional, so Cobb's prediction was correct.

No word where Kansas State is being sent. They should be a 3 seed.

Brett Boretti’s Columbia Lions won the Ivy League’s regular season. They did not win the conference tournament and will not make the NCAA tourney.

One has to wonder if all of that crap going on at Columbia distracted his team. When the campus was locked down for a few days I wonder if they were even able to practice.

I did some research while the demonstrations were taking place on campus. Their baseball field is not located on the main campus.

Davidson should look at the portal to see if any good players enter from Columbia, Penn, and Northwestern.

Or Davidson.

ESPN’s graphic said, “Kansas Wildcats”.

We had 2 players on the A10 All-Rookie team. Cavanaugh and Canon would both be assets to many higher-rated teams. Putnam, who would have been conference POY had he played on a team with a better conference record, has one more year of eligibility, but I doubt he would forfeit a Davidson diploma. Besides 1st Team All-A10, he was All-Academic.

Making All Rookie Team while playing for the 9th place team in the 15th ranked conference is not going to cause suitors to send you offers.

We were bad this year. We should be better next year, because we should be in the top 4 of the A10 most years.
