Forfeit or reschedule? I assume it's a forfeit.

Our team was in the arena tonight. I hear that they aren't playing Dayton tomorrow. Might be a false rumor, but I doubt it.

Tweet from the team and link to an announcement on the website confirming the forfeit "Due to non-COVID health and safety protocols" which I presume means we did not have enough healthy players who could dress and play in this game to meet whatever the minimum requirement is.

This is incredibly sad, somehow forfeiting the game feels so much worse to me than going and playing shorthanded even if the expectations is that would have lead to a lopsided loss. And so terribly unfortunate that all these injuries have happened this year with what I think is the most talented team weve had since Ive been a fan.

We beat Dayton 81-53 early in the season.

When we started the season with 13 scholarship players with out for the season, we should have recruited walkons then. If we had 15 healthy players at the beginning of the season, perhaps some of the scholarship players could have avoided getting hurt.

We need 15 healthy scholarship players next season. This year's team could have advanced to the NCAA Tournament or NIT if we'd had 15 healthy players from the opening tipoff.

I love this team, but it is pretty pathetic that a D1 team in a good conference has to forfeit a game cause we don't have enough players.

The cascade of ACL injuries (which is a topic that the school needs to study) notwithstanding, we chose not to have walk-ins (bad decision).

Very disappointing.

It doesnt change the disappointment or need to see if we can find ways to avoid the trend of so many season ending injuries, but surprisingly were not the first school or the biggest conference to have to forfeit games this year! TCU's womens basketball team had to forfeit a pair of Big 12 games in January.

We're paying $800 for 2 lower level seats, which is supposed to go to athletic scholarships, and contribute enough to belong to the Ne Ultra Society. We only contribute to athletics.

We don't have $1,600,000 to fund an endowed scholarship. We give what we can.

About 44 alumni/fans offered to endow 44ish football scholarships in the early 1970s when Davidson was considering dropping scholarship football in favor of need only football aid. President Spencer refused the money for endowed scholarships. He told people to donate a scholarship every year.

Davidson has very little history of alumni/parents/fans donating money for endowed scholarships. We only started raising money for athletic scholarships when Terry Holland became Athletic Director.

This isn't a story about student-athletes failing Davidson. Nor is it a story about fans failing Davidson. It is a story about Davidson failing this student-athletes and the fans. Davidson must do better.

Dayton is playing Miami-Hamilton tonight, or someone like that.
