Maybe Jessica Timmons would come home. She's a nice shooter. Never going to play much for Wes.

Good news coming?

I like Cowie's sunglasses smile. I hope it's real, especially since my suggestion that she come home was pure speculation on my part. We need players.

The Cavinder Twins (LLC?) are leaving Miami and basketball with one more year of eligibility. They have signed contracts with WWE and will start training shortly to become professional wrestlers. Really.

"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''

Re: Transfer portal
As is Des' case, transfers within the same conference shouldn't be allowed without sitting out a year.
Disappointing.
Disappointing.
Re: Transfer portal
Im not as bothered about Chloe going to a conference rival. She graduated and spent 5-years at Davidson, even if she wanted to I dont think she easily could have stayed a 6th. At this point Im fine with her going wherever is best for her.
Re: Transfer portal
Good for Chloe, good for the Hawks, no impact at all for Davidson.

Re: Transfer portal
I don't think there was anyway for her to stay. I think she had a lot of options (rightfully so) and she felt comfortable with their program. She will have me rooting for her.

Re: Transfer portal
Davidson will always have me as a fan regardless of how we are able to compete.
Saying that, moving forward in today's athletic climate there are 3 things that Davidson has to do to be competitive moving forward.
In order:
1. Add two or three grad programs.
2. Generate at least $5 million in NIL money a year
3. Fully fund the remaining scholarship programs.
Anything short of the above, I don't believe we can contend to compete for conference championships. Should we do the above? Can we do the above? Will we do the above? All good questions and probably doubtful. Regardless, without taking those steps or seeing significant changes to the transfer and NIL rules, we won't be able to compete.
Some expect that the craziness of the transfer portal, etc. is a result of COVID and the extra year of eligibility. While this is partially true, I think you will find that the transfer portal will have as many transfers entering the portal (perhaps more) over the next 3-5 years as we have had the last 2 years despite the extra year of eligibility coming to an end.
While our coaches may not base their recruiting philosophy's on transfers, the portal will create the need to fill roster spots from our own athletes looking to leave. We can appreciate the value of a Davidson education, but eventually a good or great Davidson athlete will be enticed to leave. In the case of basketball, it may be for a significant NIL windfall elsewhere. In the case of our olympic sport athletes - the call for a full scholarship and some smaller amount of NIL money. This will leave the need to fill roster gaps at the last minute and without the ability to keep our own players longer, we will need to be able to recruit players with 2-3 years of eligibility left.
Regardless, we are in for a seismic change in college athletics. NIL, transfers and another impending conference realignment.
