There were a number of passages that demonstrate just how lucky Davidson is and has been to have Bob McKillop as its coach and as one of the most important leaders on campus.

Maybe with this new coach the women’s program can have some of the success the men have enjoyed. The players deserve it and the school and Alums would love it.

I am sure Amanda would love the support of Davidson grads young and old buying her book. It is a great read. Esp for young women going through the process of loving a sport and trying to figure out how sports and team mates fit into their lives.

Below are links to two articles that Amanda has written in the last 4 years.

Book is now available on audio. Book and daughter are about the same age.

Just a guess, but I suspect the daughter was available on audio from day one.

It is very interesting. No surprises, and she handles Annette Watts more kindly than others would.

I really enjoyed the book. A very enlightening story of what it means to be a D-1 woman athlete told with unflinching honesty.

I agree about the book. When I catch up on some other things, I'll probably reread most of it.

Bringing this thread back from the archives since I just got around to reading it (shame on me).

I agree with those who found it an inciteful and compelling read. It disappoints me how many players seem to greet their final game with some sense of relief (and similarly how an NIT game is viewed as an unfortunate delay of that relief).

For someone with some familiarity with the women's program, I did find her pseudonym choices somewhat odd. I get changing the name of the guy she hooked up with on the soccer field, but others seemed unnecessary. She calls Jim Murphy and Frank Ben-Eze by name, references one men's coach as Billy and the other I.T. (the thinnest of disguises) but her teammates and head coaches get name changes. I guess it keeps anyone from doing a keyword search to use her book for opposition research, seemed mostly to just create an easily clearable, yet annoying hurdle for anyone curious about connecting names in the book with real world people.

And yes, I think less of myself for getting hung up on this point and allowing to overshadow more important themes of the memoir.
