Congrats to 2021 commit Mallorie Haines, who just passed 1000 pts for her HS career. Woohoo!

https://twitter.com/Hoopsking1968/statu ... 5023505408

Mallorie is still “just a sophomore”. She’s averaging over 21 pts per game this season. Davidson Day School remains #1 in the Observer Sweet 16.

---------------------------

Some of you might remember the name Francesca Belibi. Last season, along with our Chloe Welch, Belibi was on various all-state teams in Colorado. Good academics. Can dunk a basketball.

It turns out that Davidson Day School recently played a game against Belibi’s nationally ranked Regis Jesuit HS team. The game was part of a tournament in NY. Here are 3 of Mallorie’s 19 pts from that contest.

Belibi is the player under the basket wearing #1 and not blocking out because she’s too busy thinking, “M’kay, will someone please teach me to shoot like that?”

Belibi is headed to Stanford, if you’re wondering.

Good Cameron Tabor article here:

https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/h ... 746181002/

It's survive-and-advance time in Indiana, as the state playoffs have begun. New Castle won their first round game this evening. They'll play tomorrow night against sectional tournament favorite Jay County, a team the Trojans edged earlier this season.

Quick Peyton Carter update. Her Nease Panthers are now 24-1 after last night's win over the Seabreeze Sandcrabs.

The game was Nease coach Sherri Anthony's 600th win, which is remarkable.

District tournament starts next week.

P.S. Nease was also Tim Tebow's high school. I wonder if he has Peyton's autograph yet?

Cam Tabor's New Castle team fashioned a 16-0 second quarter run on their way to a convincing double-digit win over favored Jay County this evening.

Sectional final is Monday. Likely to be underdogs again.

New Castle grinded their way to a 39-31 win over favored Hamilton Heights this evening. Cameron scored 23 pts, including 9 in the 4th qtr. I believe she had 26 and 27 pts in her other two tournament games.

Sectional champs!

On to Columbia City for a Saturday morning game against Angola, who are ranked slightly ahead of the two teams New Castle just beat.

Are the fans going to form a car/truck caravan and follow the team bus? Does Terhune await the winner of the next game?

Did I say Angola? I meant Terhune.

Peyton Carter's Nease team has its initial post-season tilt this evening at 7:30. This first game might not have the tense drama that we experienced in last night's New Castle game, but it's the post-season, so who knows?

According to MaxPreps, the Panthers are #111 in the country, #4 in Florida, and #1 in Florida class 7A. They're certainly among the favorites in the 7A tournament. Go, Peyton!

Nope, no drama, Nease big over White. Nice numbers for Peyton in this one, 10 pts on 5-6 shooting, 3 rebs, 4 stls, 2 asts.

District finals are Thursday evening, when the Panthers will try to beat Middleburg (ranked #5 in 7A) for the fourth time this season. One of the previous three games was close.

Nease pulled away in the 2nd half to defeat Middleburg last night, 61-41. Stats not available yet.

District Champs!

Regionals are next. If I correctly deciphered the barely-filled-out bracket, both of these two district finalists advance to the regional, and they could meet for a fifth time in the regional semis. Quarterfinal games are next Thursday.

Whilst hunting down all of this publicity our signees and commits receive, I occasionally run across some nice images.

Here are two that I liked a lot.

Poignant. New Castle seniors Cameron Tabor and Alyssa Semler.

Happy. Senior night at Nease.

That's Peyton Carter on the left, of course. #41 is Camille Hobby, NC State signee. #11 is Kiya Turner, MTSU signee. #33 is Tia Robinson, who is expected to sign a D1 LOI soon. All four played AAU together.

Another nice article about Cameron.

https://www.thestarpress.com/story/spor ... 656378002/

Her regional semifinal is this morning at 10 am ET. Winner of that game plays in the regional final this evening at 8 pm.

Cameron's Indiana regional: 2 games spread out over 1 day
Peyton's Florida regional: 3 games spread out over 9 days

New Castle lost to Angola this morning, 68-54.

New Castle was a young team, coming off last year's 10-14 record, first year head coach Molly Swift was the 3rd head coach in as many seasons, and this season's Nov-Dec record was 7-8.

They responded by going 9-2 in 2019 and winning a Sectional championship.

Disappointing loss today, but plenty for this team to be proud of.

FYI... The women's U20 competition at the Australian championships begins tomorrow. You might recall that our 2019 signee Adelaide Fuller will compete for the Queensland state team in this tournament.

http://websites.sportstg.com/assoc_page ... &sID=60776

Scroll down to see the schedule for the U20 women.

If I'm not mistaken, they are on AEDT (Australian Eastern Daylight Time), which is GMT/UTC+11. That's 16 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. So, for example, Friday morning's 8 am game between Queensland and Western Australia will take place at 4 pm EST on Thursday.
