Nease lost their game with Dillard today, 43-40. They trailed 37-28 after three qtrs, got to within 41-40 with just under a minute left, but couldn't get over the hump. Peyton scored 9 of Nease's 40 pts.

I think I've mentioned that Nease coach Sherri Anthony has over 600 wins in 33 seasons, and that includes a state title. It turns out that Dillard coach Marcia Pinder now has 968 wins in 42 seasons, and that includes 10 state titles.

It's well beyond remarkable to have two coaches of that caliber facing off in a state final. This didn't figure to be an easy win for either team.

Just to recap this last month or so, coming to Davidson in the next year or two or three are players with the following team and individual accomplishments...

* One sectional champ
* Two state runner-ups
* One state champ
* One Australian U20 Championships bronze medalist
* Two all-state teams (so far)
* The 8th leading scorer at Aus U20s
* The 4th leading rebounder at Aus U20s
* The leading rebounder at Aus U20s
* The leading scorer at Aus U20s

That's a pretty good month, eh?

This article, which focuses on Australians playing at American universities and colleges, has a couple of nice paragraphs about Davidson.

I assume assistant coach Janssen is the source of our Australia pipeline.

If this hasn't been mentioned Tim Tebow played fb at Nease.
I believe he was home schooled.

He's looking for a new gig. If my recollection is correct, New Castle has a huge high school gym.

7829 seats, 3rd largest in the USA.

12 of the 14 largest high school gyms are in Indiana.

This upcoming fall and winter in Australia... (our spring and summer)

* Adelaide Fuller will again play for the BA CoE team, this time in a league called NBL1, which has replaced and extended SEABL. All NBL1 games will be live streamed.

* Rosie Deegan will play for the Perth Redbacks of the State Basketball League** (SBL) in Western Australia.

Both leagues are semi-professional leagues, some of whose players play in the WNBL. Games for both leagues start later this month.

Great experience for two future Wildcats!

The forum thread below has brief previews of SBL teams. I have no idea how accurate they are. Scroll pretty far down, or just search for "Deegan".

https://www.hoops.com.au/forum/44374-wsbl-2019/

Rosie will get to play alongside Lauren Mansfield, a WNBL point guard who finished 8th in that league's MVP balloting in 2015-16. Mansfield has also played for the Opals, the top-level Australian FIBA team.

--------------------

** Brian Sullivan, recent Davidson graduate, former Wildcat dagger maker, and current Director of Student-Athlete Development for Davidson MBB, played for the Joondalup Wolves of the SBL before coming back to NC.

Congrats to Mallorie, a well earned award.

Nevaeh Brown is Mallorie's Davidson Day teammate, her AAU teammate, and a Wake Forest commit.

While we're all sitting around, wordlessly watching and helplessly hoping for a post-season bid, here's a short Rosie Deegan highlight clip to pass the time:

https://twitter.com/BasketballAus/statu ... 3506095105

This is from the recent Aus U20 tournament. The second opponent, wearing the dark unis, is Queensland.

#9 for QLD is Adelaide Fuller. Tall and long.

#12 for QLD, the player who Rosie beats with the spin-a-rama mid-range step-back, is Alexandra Fowler. These two players were teammates at the Youth Olympics 3x3 competition in Buenos Aires this past October.

Another cool Mallorie Haines item: https://twitter.com/yourgaragegirl/stat ... 4354075648

I found Mallorie's name on this page -- looks like she played in this competition in 2018, as well.

This is a Charlotte area award that was presented yesterday evening.

Players from all three non-senior classes -- 2020, 2021, and 2022 -- are eligible for the Rising Star award.

Happy to see this. More congratulations to Cameron Tabor.

Edit: Btw... I'm aware of three 2019 players from Indiana who were offered by Davidson. The other two are Maddie Nolan and Amaya Hamilton.

Cameron is the only one who made 1st Team All-Academic.

Two Sallie Schutz items...

1. Apparently, Sallie is a PRBLM child. Kinda like how the Bad News Bears are bad news for opposing teams.

2. And it looks like Sallie will play in an All-star game today in Atlanta.

A very good All-star game it appears, with high-rated players from multiple states. Should be great experience for Sallie.

Another All-star game for Cameron. This one looks like an intra-Indiana game, next month in Knightstown.
