Postseason

Post by Derek Smith » Sun Mar 17, 2024 9:44 pm

We all know that this could have been our year.

Women have a new tournament the WBIT which has 32 teams in addition to the WNIT (48 teams) and WBI (8 teams). Here's where the A10 teams are going. I'll update as more teams are announced.

NCAA:
Richmond (10) vs Duke (7)

WBIT:
Seton Hall at Saint Joseph's (3)
George Mason at Penn State (1)
VCU at Villanova (1)

WNIT
Duquesne
Saint Louis

It appears that URI was not selected unless they chose the WBI which comes out later on Monday. Wondering if they chose to turn down their bid(s).

St. Louis is 14-18 with a NET of 150.

Davidson's NET is 81, but the NCAA hasn't factored in our forfeits. Probably they don't want to reward the teams we forfeited to.

The WBIT replaces the WNIT in the post season hierarchy. The NCAA didn't "own" the WNIT, thus the change.

The WBI is no longer...at least for this year. Ran out of teams.

7th seeded Duke defeated 2 seed Ohio State 75-63.

A team we defeated continues to advance.

South Carolina is mopping the floor with North Carolina.

The Tar Heels (it wouldn't be appropriate to use our usual designation for UNC teams here) scored 41 points in 200 minutes of playing time. The Gamecocks' (graveline would have a field day feminizing the team nicknames in this game) non-starters scored 51 points in 93 minutes. Freshman guard Milaysia Fulwiley put up 20 points and 9 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench. Soph forward Chloe Kitts seems to have lost her starting spot, but she has nonetheless gone 13/14 from the floor in two NCAA games. This team is good, and deep.

N Carolina knocked Mich State out earlier. They jumped out to a pretty big lead and held on when the Spartans fought back to make it close. I think the future is bright in E Lansing.

Final Four tonight. USC is a big favorite over NCSU. Iowa a narrow favorite over Connecticut.

If I could pick the winner, it would be the Wolfpack. The best offense I've seen in our gym was the one that Wes Moore ran with the Lady Mocs. Beautiful. Possession after possession of the ball not hitting the floor. I'd love to see Coach Moore win it, but USC looks unbeatable.

They were and are. I don't see anyone beating them. Too deep.

And superbly coached. As are all the teams in this Final Four.

Good for St Louis, but I don't think the women's NIT is equal to the men's NIT. I think it is more like the CBI. Derek?

Until this year it was the #2 tournament. Now it's the #3. I would say it's a big step above the CBI in terms of organization and legitimacy because it has been around for so long. The new WBIT definitely stole some of its thunder.

South Carolina only has 12 players on their roster. 9 play in the rotation. Their bench was the difference in the Championship game, outscoring Iowa's bench 36+ to 0.

South Carolina is an Under Armour school. Maybe they'll write us a big check to visit Columbia next year.

It looks like Steph's decision to sign MiLaysia Fulwiley as the first Curry Brand collegiate "ambassador" will start bearing fruit sooner than expected. She put on quite a show in front of 17 million viewers yesterday.

And she comes off the bench. South Carolina’s pastures look pretty green for next year and beyond.
