Davidson's Best 15 Players

Why 15? I'm thinking about a full roster with no requirement for balance regarding positions.

We might have consensus about Curry, Snyder, Hetzel, Maloy, and Gerdy.

So who are the next 10 in any order?
Bryan Adrian: clearly one of the best players although a limited career.
Derek Rucker: outstanding player and 2 time academic All American.
Jason Richards: Led nation in assists on the great 2008 team and 2nd best player on that team.
John Falconi: The Falcon and Dunn only needed a good center to have made one of Davidson's best all time teams in early '70s.
Greg Dunn: Outstanding player and would have been a star in any era of Davidson BB. Should have been at least honorable mention AA.
Brendan Winters: among McKillop's best and one of my favorites.
Brandon Williams: Brandon's 1995-96 season was spectacular and one of the best in Davidson history.
De'Mon Brooks: Worked hard and became one of our best. Honorable mention AA.
Jake Cohen: In the discussion for Davidson's best centers all time.
Peyton Aldridge: He would have been a star in any era of Davidson Basketball. Honorable mention AA.

I can think of another 5 or 6 players who could have ... or maybe should have been on the list.

All wonderful choices. I did't see in person a few of them, but I have read their records. I probably heard some of their games on the radio, but those didn't stick in my mind that well.

I could list a bunch of really good players from my era and from more recent times whom more knowledgable fans can better evaluate and who would be in the next tier. Moser and JAG are two who popped into my mind.

Why don't I know who Himes is?

I obviously know the other three.

I had Cook and Gibbs on the list but changed to Rucker and Winters. I could not see leaving a 2 time academic AA off the list. I admitted Winters is one my favorite players ... so maybe some bias there. But Winters was a special player and I witnessed an all time performance by him in the SoCon tourney in Charleston once upon a time ...

Rodney Knowles played in the NBA and the ABA.

We have very few NBA and ABA players, so anyone who played in both leagues should make the top 15.

I once wrote a letter to Terry Holland urging him to support Rodney Knowles for the Davidson HOF. He replied, agreed, and said he would. Rodney apparently did not graduate which bolstered the argument that Maloy should not be left out of the HOF either since there were exceptions.

BTW, Greg Dunn needs to join Falconi in the Davidson HOF. Should we start a campaign?

George “Buddy” Cheek and Hobby Cobb should be mentioned though they played before anybody here was potty trained.

I nominated Big Rod Knowles (played at my high school), got all sorts of prominent alums to endorse his inclusion, we were successful, and I didn't even get invited to the induction dinner.

BTW, Landry Kosmalski was pretty damn good. Kenny Wilson as well. Himes was as steady as they come and helped make Rucker what he was.

I hadn't noticed that he was not in line a few guys ahead of me at graduation. I was surprised to read on the board that he hadn't been.
