JonAxel was pretty darn good, especially his final season.

I’m not sure if he was one of the best 15, but if I was making a 15 man roster I’d take Ian Johnson. His size and sneaky lefty game could score on anyone.
If anyone disagrees with anything I say, I am quite prepared not only to retract it, but also to deny under oath that I ever said it

Richie D might warrant an honorable mention.

I don’t feel like looking this up. How many conference Players of the Year have we had? I think we’ve had 7 in the 2000s.

Edit- now I can think of 8.

No on Ian (not close), no on Himes (nice player), no on Richie D (not close). No on Jon Axel, though he was a very good player.
Landry is close, but not quite there.
Tyler K. is closer. I'd rank him a bit above Jack Gibbs.

I don't remember much about Doug Cook, but I tend to think he should be in the top 15. You have to favor players from the best era we ever had, by far.

Best player on the court against Duke, according to Coach K.

Rodney Knowles played in the NBA and the ABA.

We have very few NBA and ABA players, so anyone who played in both leagues should make the top 15.
Yes and he sure saved the day on March 7, 1966
And, as a senior in '67-'68, was beat out for a starting spot by sophomore Doug Cook.

Cook
Kroll
Gibbs
Himes
Why don't I know who Himes is?

I obviously know the other three.
Himes was my era. A physical specimen and a very good player but not top 15. I also think, as good as Gibbs was, not top 15 based on his whole body of work.

Best player on the court against Duke, according to Coach K.
And against Ohio State in the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''

Ian's two best games were his first v. Duke and his last v. Ohio St.

Didn't match that level in the interim, though a nice finesse player.

Gerdy had a problem with winning conference POY. Ron Carter. He was 1st team all conference 3 years and Athlete of the Year in '79, but never POY. Ron Carter was fabulous. I saw him at the conference tournament in 1996. Still looked like he could suit up and demolish people.

Funny, in ‘79 Gerdy was SoCon Athlete of the Year, but not hoops POY.
