Several of College of Charleston's players are entering the portal because Pat Kelsey is taking the Louisville job.

Ed Cooley is leaving Georgetown after 1 year. He says the rebuild will be much more difficult than he imagined. That helps explain why Rowan Brumbaugh is in the portal.

@On3NIL
UConn coach Dan Hurley is not a fan of the transfer portal being open during the NCAA Tournament and players skipping around to multiple schools.

"I just don't think it's healthy for somebody to be able to change schools like underwear."

Both of his excellent starting guards are transfers, Cam Spencer from Rutgers and Tristen Newton from ECU, but I think UConn is only the second school they've attended.

I think that the chances are good that one or more of our players in the Portal will end up staying at DC I just don't see there being much interest in any of them except Huffman and Skogman from schools that would offer more than Davidson.

This is certainly possible, but we have been publicly linked with 10 portal players already (and likely have reached out to more), so, if they want to return to Davidson, the clock is probably ticking on that possibility.

If you think Dan Hurley moves around a lot you're not familiar with most college coaches.

And he stayed at St Benedict's Prep for 10 years!

There are coaches who leave a college job after one year (see recent Utah St coach Sprinkle and Kyle Neptune, among others).

And you can take transfers without liking the ease with which players can transfer. That's not hypocritical (which is the most wrongly used word in the English language; that and "misnomer").

Don't believe everything you read on the UNCC board.

So forgive my ignorance..., but how does this work?

Does a student athlete give up thier scholly when they enter the portal? If no takers, does the current school have to keep them and honor the scholly until the athlete again decides to jump? What if the school has already backfilled the slot?

Such a gamble for students. And such uncertainty and risk for the school. I'm sure this is a very complicated system. Someone please enlighten me....

I think that scholarships are only a commitment for one year at a time, renewable at the institution's discretion (though in this brave new world of college athletics, this too may have changed).

If this is still the way scholarships are granted, I could see:
a) There being no expectation for a school to hold or make good on a portal athlete's scholly.

2) Some sort of "drop date" after which the school could expect that a scholarship would actually be free for granting to another graduating HS player or transfer. Is that date the one at which the athlete enters the Portal (as it seems it should be) or some other later date. Otherwise, why have a Portal?

c) The possibility that schools themselves may encourage an athlete to enter the Portal as a way of informing the athlete that their scholarship will not be renewed for the coming year.

As Sgt. Schultz frequently said, "I know nothing." But I'd like to....

Awkward all around. The player enters the portal, at a school like Davidson I would assume that he is still attending classes and playing pick up games with former teammates.
Don't understand the advantage of entering the portal without having some prior feelers from other schools/coaches.

Not sure there are a lot of pick up games anymore. Their off season training schedule is intense enough that they are not engaging in a lot of extra games.

Wake combo guard Boopie Miller has entered the portal. averaged 15.6 points and 3.5 assists per game this season, shooting 46.4% from the field and 36.9% from three
