Who coaches Davidson’s big men?

While the foul call on Fordham that sent Reed to the free throw line near game’s end was iffy, the replay showed the Fordham defender literally giving Grant a bear hug so he could not receive the inbound pass. No call made, however.

I laughed. I don't think I was supposed to, so I laughed some more. Thank you, Acorn.

I laughed too. I guess we’ll all be in hell together.

Two of their final buckets in regulation could have been called as walks. The jump pass out and the lean in double hop were pretty clear violations. Regardless, we had our chances to put them away and we gave out another present.

The double hop is what I saw too on the replay of the game tying shot in regulation... He had both hands on the ball and went up and down before taking the shot

I was going to watch the replay, but I saw the box score.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... /401625542

We shot a better percentage than they did. Even our anemic 3-pt shooting was better than theirs. We took a total of 49 shots. They took 68. They outrebounded us 47-32 overall and 22-6 on offensive boards. I ain't watching that.

I hate to criticize real college students. But some teams know how to win. This team knew how to lose. Creatively. Game after game. I watched this entire game with sense of dread, even when we were up 13. Ugh

A couple of observations regarding a similar ending.
The team did not quit.
The offense never recovered once Skogman went down. Opponents left our big alone at the top of the key.
Huffman wore out at the end of the game. Needed more rest throughout (5 minutes in each half)
Bailey and Logan didnt work well together on offense.
Brizzi got in trouble often when he confused Villanova's system (penetrate and dish to players moving into an open lane) and Davidson's.
The ball needed to be pushed to Durkin early in transition, both after a miss and made basket.
When playing the big lineup, some zone could have been used.

But at least according to the color guy on the game Skogman will return next season. Big news if accurate. Go Cats!
I think it’s safe to Skogman will be playing somewhere next year. I wouldn’t put my money on Davidson. Wherever he plays, I will be fan of that team for at least a year. He was a very important player for our team and without him, it became very apparent how important.

I would hope "the buck stops here" and you first put blame on the coaching staff. Matt may end up being a good coach but he is not as of yet.
I think a head coach shows his skills and abilities in close games. He failed that test. Also, did the players improve from start of season until the end?

Grant stayed about the same.

Durkin seemed to go backwards and lost his shot.

Brizzi- no change

Bailey- still very inconsistent. Some improvement but it seemed forced.

Logan- Improved- while starting he was bringing energy every start and became a defensive force. I am not sure why they can't find a coach who works on the bigs offensive moves. A couple of moves and weekly drills on improving his hands would yield big dividends. Heck toss our bigs some Bill Walton, Kareem and Bill Russel videos. I have seen AAU players pick up one or two new moves during a season.

Kochera- Shining star but it looks like he was a self improvement player who worked his butt off in the off season.

Except for Hunter, we got little out of the bench.

11 close games losses no bueno. Sure some can be won with some new and better talent but some better coaching should have made a difference.

Tommy, Burleson, one of the all-time great centers in college basketball, lives just up the road in Newland, North Carolina. He runs a basketball camp every summer. I’m sure he would be glad to work with our big men.

The game Tommy played no longer exists.
