One of the selling points of the Southern Conference for prospective members is VMI and The Citadel do not hog the Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The other 8 schools share the honor. VMI is in a nearly 50 year drought.

Fordham and Duquesne follow a similar path in the A10.
