I’m even older. There was no I-77 here when I was in school, and not a lot of traffic on US 21. My senior year I worked at a church in Charlotte, so I got especially familiar with that two-lane road.
I took neighbors to the airport this morning, and having 3 of us in the car, I took the express lanes for free. Coming back, I ducked on for one segment around the Exit 23 almost permanent bottle neck and right back off. That was worth the $1.35 or whatever it was.
I spent two hours going from Exit 36 to Exit 33 one afternoon back almost 20 years ago.
